Grime’s SXSW Takeover

March 14, 2017

It comes as no surprise that grime has its own stage at SXSW. The scene has completely taken over the news and charts over the last year in the UK and it only makes sense that it has found itself over in Austin, Texas for the globally renowned convention, SXSW.

Our boys Rude Kid and Ghetts have made their way to Austin to bring the sounds of the UK to a new audience. They performed last night, on the The Musicalise Showcase line-up alongside Lil Simz, Frisco, Logan Sama and Kano himself at the Musicalise showcase. These guys set a new level for future grime artists wanting to takeover the US hip hop audience. Amongst the highly energetic crowd, were the likes of Beats One DJ, Julie Adenuga and US rapper, Danny Brown. They certainly weren’t holding back on the dancefloor either!

Grime has had an ever-growing presence at SXSW over the past few years with artists like Stormzy and Lil Simz having already proven why the genre deserves the global recognition it’s now receiving. There is an expanding American grime fan base which came out in force last night to see some of the best artist the UK has to offer.

Both Ghetts and Rude Kid were discussing their set list backstage and decided to take the opportunity to perform Rude Kid’s latest track “Banger After Banger” featuring Ghetts, without any surprise the crowd absolutely loved it. Their new “banger” drops March 31st.
