Skateboarding to Architecture

Iain Borden's definitive study still stands up today.

In 2001, Iain Borden, architectural historian and urban commentator, wrote a seminal skate text called “Skateboarding, Space and the City: Architecture and the Body”. It proved to be one of the original academic studies of skating, and is still held in high regard today. For a counter-culture so intimately bound up with the urban spaces it occupies, it’s strange that Borden remains pretty much the only one to give skateboarding and its relationship with architecture the attention it clearly deserves.

As part of a new series of podcasts called Architecture on Air, Borden explores some of the concepts and theories he originally outlined in his book. You can get Skateboarding to Architecture through iTunes, or check out the dedicated site - if you can figure out your way round: http://www.coa.uncc.edu/arch_on_air/flash.html
