Apple's head of design on his obsessive approach to his work.
Remember when all computers were just grey or black and boring? How could something so essential have remained so aesthetically dull? It seems stupid, doesn't it, that no one thought to change it? The best ideas often spring from people who spot things and trends that are so glaringly obvious to us all that we pinch ourselves because we didn't think of them first. In the case of computers, it was Jonathan Ive, current VP of Industrial Design at Apple, who asked himself in 1997, 'Why do all computers look boring?' Then he set about making sure they didn't.
First up was the iMac - transluscent, multi-coloured and beautiful. Other paradigm-shifting classics followed: iPods, iPhones, Macbook Pros, Macbook Airs, crystal displays etc. Each was the product of Ive's obsessive approach to every detail of every product he put out. His products aren't gratuitously beautiful, though; they are beautiful because it's as if they could not have been designed in any other way. Function defines each product's exquisite form.

Real Talent
Sand Painting saves the day.
The world appears to be immersed in a culture of reality TV that entertains the viewer through hilarity, conforming to the latest trends and the general misfortune of others. 'Ukraine's Got Talent 's most recent winner is a breath of fresh air.
It is rare that a television audience can become so completely enamoured and emotionally moved purely through an artists.

The World's Oldest
One of the most interesting photographic missions we have seen in a long time, courtesy of U.S. photographer Rachel Sussman.
Awe-inspiring does not begin to describe it. From Japanese Cedar to Siberian Actinobacteria – the subjects of her interest are not exactly the most photogenic, but that is no reflection of how profoundly interesting they are.
Photographer Rachel Sussman has gone on a mission to seek out the world’s oldest living things and delivered spectacular results. The interdisciplinary-minded U.S. photographer has created an arresting collection of outworldly still-life photography.

Rio Breaks
Vince Medeiros' riveting new surf documentary.
Vince Medeiros is a key figure in the world of Relentless. For those lucky enough to have held a physical copy of This is The Order magazine, it may not come as much of a surprise – he is the editor-in-chief of our members-exclusive title, the most recent one due to come out very soon!
As with all the Relentless Artists, we are incredibly proud to see Vince take his success to a completely new level. As of very recently he has written and co-produced a massively successful socio-surf (never thought we’d ever say this) documentary.
