Starting out

I come from a family that spent a lot of time messing around on the water. I did a bit of waterskiing when I was younger, found wakeboarding at 15 and never looked back. I actually got on a snowboard before a wakeboard and the two complement each other pretty well.

The road to success

Diversification is the key. To make a living out of a niche sport you have to think a bit more laterally and push what you love doing in as many different directions as possible. For me, that means not just boarding but rail riding, wakeskating, hitting up contests but also road tripping, teaching and whatever else I can get stuck into.

Career highlight to date

2nd at Wakestock has to be up up there as is taking the National Wakeskate title a while back and grabbing a 2nd at FISE

If I wasn't...

If I wasn't a wakeboarder, I'd want to be a surfer. It's impossible to get round the fact that I'm a water baby to the core and there really is nothing like the sea, living near it, being in it…and to surf it is the source! I'm not a great surfer but even getting thrashed around and ragdolled is still a blast. I love watching the new school aerials thrown by some surfers, obviously because some of the moves they pull relate to wakeboarding and wakeskating. I can't get around the unrivalled respect I have for a big wave surfers though. Tom Lowe, Fergal Smith and the man that captures everything, Mickey Smith, are crazy!"
