Vote Relentless on Ride UK BMX

Posted 1 week, 6 days ago

Earlier in the year, the Relentless BMX Team took to the road with filmer Matty Lambert to compete in the annual Ride to Glory tour (with Ride BMX Magazine).

The challenge was between 5 teams all made up of 5 riders, 1 Team Manager, 1 Photographer and 1 Filmmaker, all taking part in an 8 day road trip around the UK. Each team needed to complete a series of challenges and create a video that would be entered online for viewers to vote for.

The Relentless team video was released this week and now we’re asking all of you to go online to watch and vote Relentless! Team riders on the trip included Mark Webb, Niki Croft, Liam Eltham, Matt Priest and guest international rider Reuben Rodriguez, who travelled the length and breadth of the country to seek out some top riding locations and bring you a film that captures the UK’s best in street, ramps and dirt BMX.

Anstey and GSX-R1000 Superbike - The World's Fastest Road Racing Competition

Posted 1 week, 6 days ago

Bruce Anstey

Kiwi Bruce Anstey aboard a Relentless by TAS Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike made history at the weekend, becoming the world’s fastest combination of rider and machine, average an astonishing 133.977mph in the final race of the day at the prestigious Ulster Grand Prix on the Dundrod Circuit in Northern Ireland.

The Kiwi also managed to record a fastest top speed of 197mph, on the menacing road circuit.

Anstey’s record breaking lap aided his Superbike win in the final race of the day at Dundrod, taking the TAS Racing team’s top step tally to 12 at ‘The Ulster’. And judging by the reaction of the 30,000 strong crowd at the County Antrim venue, the London based Kiwi was also the event’s most popular winner around the 7.401-mile circuit.

"Ultimately we proved that the GSX-R1000 in Relentless Suzuki trim is not only the best, but the fastest road racing Superbike on the planet. A big thank you to all the boys in the team today for a big effort – they work hard all year and it’s nice to give them something to boast about at the end of a tough season," said Anstey.

Big Crowds, Blue Skies And Epic Wakeboarding

Posted on 3/8/10

Last weekend saw another epic Relentless Wakestock as festival goers flocked to Northern Wales to get a glimpse of Europe’s finest wakeboarders as they battled it out for the 2010 Relentless Wakestock title.

Then when the tides drained out the music flooded in, with a mix of summer tunes pumping from the new Relentless Energy Drink Stage and entertaining revelers well into the night.

Relentless rider David O’Caiomh had qualified two weeks previous to the event and took his rightful place against the seeded Pros after another great day riding on the Friday. Unfortunately the competition was fierce with a who’s who of international riders taking on the Relentless Leviathan in style and taking the top four spots at the end of the weekend.

The weekend’s entertainment at the festival site was set to please the large crowds that arrived, who were seen bouncing in unison to unforgettable performances from Zane Lowe, Tinie Tempah and Chase & Status. The new Relentless Energy Drink Stage kicked off both nights with the likes of Scratch Perverts and SKREAM getting everyone at Relentless Wakestock talking about the best hang-out on site!

Relentless Rider Mark Webb in Chicago

Posted on 29/7/10

Mark Webb

The 2010 Dew Tour kicked off in Chicago last weekend with no shortage of competitive tension, crazy weather and a plethora of BMX talent.

The BMX prelims started on Saturday in heat that saw spectators fainting in the auditorium, the padded up Riders took the brunt of the intense conditions having to deliver everything humanly possible on a bike to win a coveted place in the final.

Webbie's 1st run didn't deliver the goods; he needed to pull something big out the bag for the 2nd run in order to qualify for the finals. Just as we waited patiently for the next round to begin, a massive thunderstorm struck and everyone ran for shelter being warned that the contest may just have to be judged on 1st rounds as the storm was here to stay.

Defeated, Webbie accepted that the Dew Tour dream may have slipped away and headed back to the hotel, devastated. Luckily by 9’o clock the storm cleared and organisers ran over 20 riders within the heats to get them back to the course NOW to finish the prelims and give everyone that chance of getting through to Finals.

Armed with the knowledge that this was his last chance at qualifying, last to go Webbie threw down everything that had ever scored him points within his 10 year career, the decade 360 was landed perfectly, 360 invert, truck to turndown over the hip, no handed flair straight into a 900, the course was electric and just as he landed his last trick the sky erupted into a huge electrical storm and everyone cleared the course for shelter once again.

Scoring 2nd in the prelims started Finals day on a high for Mark. Webbie was introduced to the crowd as "One of the best BMX'ers on the face of this planet" by Catfish and didn't disappoint. His first run saw him fall on the decade 360, the trick he invented 2 years ago and is still the only contender to put it out there in competition, but the 2nd run he landed it perfectly and earned his place as 3rd on the score board. Last year's Dew Tour Winner Garrett Reynolds ran last and bumped Mark's 3rd down to 4th with an incredible run, but it was by no means a bad rider to lose out to!

With all done and dusted Webbie has begun his journey to next weekend's X Games. The Dew Tour will continue this year until October with 3 legs left to go.

Relentless NASS 2010

Posted on 28/7/10

Relentless NASS

Relentless NASS came and went in a sunny, action packed and fun filled blur. From World Cup skateboarding to an amazing International BMX street battle, the Relentless Athlete Lounge after parties and ‘THAT’ crash on Sunday, by all accounts, 2010 was the best Relentless NASS yet.

The Relentless Goliath reared her mighty presence across the Shepton Mallet showground once more to test the mettle of all Riders brave enough to climb the 8m high roll-in. Skateboarders Martin Andre and Jussi Korhonen spun 360 melons over the kicker to 540 melons on the quarter pipe while Kelly Bolton bust out an inverted barrel roll to a raucous but very appreciative crowd.

UK dominated the competitions this year, Relentless skater Chris Oliver landed 1st on the World Cup skate final with a flawless run that saw him take on the entire course and land himself an entry into this weekend’s next event in Italy.

Relentless Dirt BMX Rider, Matt Priest, also swept 1st place in his category and then we get to the Mark Webb podium on Sunday afternoon…..

Sunday’s BMX Street final, the most watched BMX event of the year, the 10,000 strong crowd took witness to the US’s Kelly Bolton and his huge backflip transfer, Todd Meyne, Australia, spinning 1080’s and flare whips, Alex Coleborne’s 360 barrel roll and then there was Mark Webb. The decade 360 made it’s first ever Relentless Nass appearance followed by some hugely technical manoeuvres worthy of a Dew Tour final. Needless to say Webbie took 1st place home and another year of Relentless athletes dominating podiums passes.

The Fallen Hero Award goes to Sam Ward who was stretchered off the course after taking a massive fall, breaking his collar bone and smashing his full face helmet in two. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to him.

So, Relentless Nass 2010 festival over, the showground now awaits our return for 2011. See you there!

Tom Lowe first ever Brit invited to the Padang Padang Cup in Bali

Posted on 16/7/10

Tom Lowe

British surfer Tom Lowe has become the first ever UK surfer to receive an invite to the exclusive Rip Curl Cup held at the legendary wave of Padang Padang in Bali, Indonesia. Tom, who has been leading the charge of big wave riding in the UK over recent years, will head to Bali in July to compete against the world’s best tube riders on one of the planets heaviest waves.

In its seventh year, the Rip Curl Cup Invitational is the longest running contest in Indonesia and invites 32 of the world’s best barrel riders (16 Indonesian and 16 International invitees) to prove their skills, with previous competitors including Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Koby Abberton, Koa Smith, Luke Egan and last year’s winner Hawaiian Jamie O’Brien.

The wave at Padang Padang is known as the ‘Balinese Pipeline’ for its deadly tubes that only work when the largest Indian Ocean swells storm into the shallow water, forming a wedging slab with almond-shaped barrels that run over a razor sharp reef and detonate just a few feet from jagged rocks.

Rip Curl has set aside a 5 week long waiting period to hold the “one-day, one-swell” event, ensuring the biggest swell with the heaviest waves. The contest window runs from July 25th to August 29th and the contest will be run entirely on the one chosen day.

When contest directors see an ideal “Padang swell” in the forecast, they will give the green light and the 32 competitors will have 24 hours to make their way to Bali’s Bukit Peninsula.

Sea Sessions in Bundoran

Sea sessions

The Sea Sessions festival in Bundoran was the first event for Relentless in Republic of Ireland and it couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend.

Relentless delivered a mini ramp and demo’s from Belfast based skate park Unit 13, the Relentless Ride With Us Skate Tour headed up by UK athlete Ben Grove made a pit stop and of course the Animal Relentless Mountain Bike Tour came, saw and conquered the appreciative crowd of 4,000 people.

The surf was also on fine form and the Quiksilver Expression Session was dominated by local hero Cain Kilcullen. As well as first place in the comp and a trip to France, Cain scored a wild card entry into the Relentless Boardmasters in August, the next big surf event on our calendar.

We’re already looking forward to next year in Bundoran!

Relentless TAS Suzuki win at TT 2010

Posted on 29/6/10

Relentless by TAS Suzuki posted their second Superbike podium from TT 2010, when Bruce Anstey fought through to third place in Friday’s re-started 4-lap blue riband Senior TT.

It was Anstey’s 20th career TT podium and after a torrid week on the Isle of Man, the Windsor based Kiwi was delighted with the result, making the most of his good fortune after retiring from the first encounter.

Cameron Donald was forced to retire at the end of lap 1 with an intermittent electrical problem, which was very disappointing for the Australian, as he had been within two seconds of early leader Ian Hutchinson at Glen Helen on the opening lap. Cameron had to settles for a single podium in the first superbike race at the beginning of the week.

Philip Neill – Team Manager
“It has been a rollercoaster TT for the whole team, but as I said earlier in the week, we have been coming here long enough to understand the pitfalls. We struggled with set-up this TT, and when riders start to swap back and forward trying to find the perfect set-up it doesn’t help their confidence. In saying that, we have come away with podiums in the two main races, again demonstrating the pedigree of the Relentless GSX-R1000 Superbike, and I have to say I’m proud of the effort from both riders

Senior TT Results
Winner – Ian Hutchinson [Honda] 1hr 10min:24.59s; 2nd – Ryan Farquhar [Kawasaki] 1hr 11min:02.36s; 3rd – Bruce Anstey [Relentless by TAS Suzuki] 1hr 11min:38.08s

Strakka Racing by Relentless take LMP2 win at Le Mans

Posted on 15/6/10

Strakka

The 2010 Le Mans 24-hour race turned out to be fraught with disaster 56 cars started and only 28 finished what can only be described as the most grueling road race in the world.

Strakka Racing by Relentless is proud not only to have won LMP2 at the team’s first attempt, but to have done so in dominant style; leading from pole to finish; setting a new class lap record; completing the greatest distance ever covered by an LMP2 car; crossing the line in the highest position yet achieved in LMP2 (5th overall), and winning the Michelin Green X Challenge award for Le Mans 2010.

As the sun rose over Le Mans, Kane passed the baton to Danny Watts, and the pole-setter instantly demonstrated his prowess with a new personal best and LMP2 lap record of 3:33.742. The two-lap lead grew to six, Danny Watts then brought the Relentless Strakka Racing HPD home to win LMP2, fifth overall, having completed 367 laps - nearly 5002 kilometres later.

Team manager:

"Strakka is here for the long term, and this win, as fantastic as it is, is not the peak of our ambitions," added Piers. "It’s the platform from which we can move forward. We’ve proved a point, set a precedent, and raised expectations. We now have to go to Portugal for the next round of the Le Mans Series, get our heads down, and prove we can do this all over again.”

Relentless incubator athlete Jack Challoner celebrates win

Jack

Today, Relentless incubator athlete Jack Challoner celebrated his second consecutive win in the SPEA FIM Junior World Championships at the Motegi Twin Ring circuit in Japan.

This two day event saw Challoner take two consecutive wins to close the championship lead to a mere three points behind Spanish Montesa rider, Alfredo Gomez. As the championship now moves back to Europe to Challoner’s home round event at the spectacular Nevis Range venue in Scotland at the end of the month, Jack will be hoping to take the advantage on home soil.

Challoner finished the first lap with a total of 12 marks, a dominating 11 marks ahead of his nearest competitors.

A delighted Challoner commented; “It’s always a great feeling to stand on the top step of the podium, especially two days in a row. This weekend worked well for me, my team manager Michele Bosi set the bike up as if we were in Europe, and I was riding well all weekend. Winning both days this weekend has really given me a confidence boost."

Gallows open for Rage Against The Machine for historic London show

Posted on 10/6/10

Gallows

After a Jon and Tracy Morter felt they couldn’t quite stomach another manufactured soppy pop nugget getting to Christmas number 1 in 2009, they started a facebook group to get an iconic rock anthem to the top spot instead.

They opted for Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name’ to pull the upset. A song that has influenced millions with its tongue in cheek yet rebellious slogan-like refrain ‘F**k you I won’t do what you tell me’.

The campaign spread like wild fire voicing the discontent of a significant portion of music fans, whom expressed their fatigue at the insincere tripe that repetitively got to the pinnacle of the charts. With over 500,000 downloads the RATM song superseded X-Factor winner Joe McElderry and the grass roots campaign proved a phenomenal success that gained main stream press exposure world-wide. T

he LA based rock band were taken aback by the UK public’s collective spirit and decided to thank them with a free concert in Finsbury Park, London on Sunday June 6th 2010. 40,000 revelers signed up through a special web site to claim a place at the coveted ‘Rage Factor’ concert and history was made.

RATM handpicked their support acts and invited none other than Relentless act Gallows to open the momentous event alongside Roots Manuva and Gogol Bordello. All acts that display an aggressive sense of independence and fervor.

"Relentless" training regime for TAS athletes Bruce Anstey and Cameron Donald

Posted on 3/6/10

Cameron Donald

Practice week is underway with the 220 corners across 37.7 miles of undulating roads. The Relentless by TAS Suzuki squad are now fully focused on the job in hand at the 2010 Isle of Man TT Races, with both riders, Cameron Donald and Bruce Anstey posting impressive times during the opening two practice sessions around the 37.73-mile public road circuit.

Relentless athlete 32-year-old Australian Cameron Donald is making a welcome return to the Isle of Man after missing out on last year’s race action due to a practice week crash, injuring his shoulder. The Melbourne lad had the consolation of setting the first-ever 131mph lap around the TT Circuit just 12 months ago, and is already right on the pace in the prestigious Superbike class this year, posting the second fastest time on both nights.

During Monday night’s opening session for the 2010 event, Donald posted a lap speed of 127.274mph on his Relentless by TAS Suzuki Superbike, repeating that feat on Tuesday night on the same GSX-R1000 Superbike, with a lap speed of 127.212mph.

With little over two days to go until the first race, the preparation time is now over and all that is left is the amalgamation of man and machine versus the grueling 38 mile circuit, to bring home the coveted Tourers Trophy.

Seeley makes history at Relentless North west 200

Posted on 19/5/10

The Relentless North West 200 saw in-form British Superbike rider Alastair Seeley make history on Saturday at the Relentless sponsored International North West 200, winning the feature Superbike event – a first for an Irish rider in thirteen years.

The 30-year-old reigning British Superstock champion also took the opening Supersport race victory, a Superbike race one podium and two other third place finishes – on a day when Relentless by TAS Suzuki posted five podiums from five races, including two tops steps.

The Relentless TAS team started their day with third place in the opening Superbike event, again heralded by that man Seeley, who fought his way from the third row of the grid to stand on the podium. On the opening lap it was Bruce Anstey who led the Relentless Suzuki effort, coming from his row five grid slot up to fourth place, but he was soon overhauled by his diminutive team-mate, who closed down a five second gap to the leaders for his opening podium of the day.

Such was Seeley’s pace, he set a new lap record for the 8.9-mile circuit at 120.985mph, with speeds exceeding 200mph[4mins 26.909sec]. Anstey eventually finished fifth with Cameron Donald eighth.

When the feature NW200 Superbike event was cut from six laps to four, the odds were stacked against all three Relentless by TAS Suzuki riders, positioned on rows three, four and five.

Anstey again got the better start of the trio but Seeley, holding the expectations of an 100,000 strong local crowd, forced his way through, and onto the back of Honda duo Easton and McGuinness at mid distance, guaranteeing a grandstand finish.

Seeley led onto the final nine-mile lap but Easton took up the initiative on the brakes into Metropole with only the two mile Coast Road section to conquer. Seeley, as we have come to expect, wasn’t prepared to settle for second place, putting the nose of his GSX-R1000 Superbike under the Scotsman at the very next turn – before demonstrating his pure road racing prowess to take a very famous victory.

Laverty wins in true Relentless style

Posted on 10/5/10

After only two full seasons in the British Superbike Championship, Relentless by TAS Suzuki posted their debut top step in the premier class with Michael Laverty on Monday at Oulton Park.

Laverty’s race two demolition of the field in the British Superbike class demonstrates the progress, Moneymore based Relentless TAS Racing has been making with their GSX-R1000 Superbike already this season. After being virtually written off in the pre-season build up, both Michael Laverty and Alastair Seeley now sit proudly in the top five in the current standings.

In race one it was Seeley who looked odds on for his second BSB podium of the year, but a missed gear on the final lap allowed John Laverty to steal his thunder, leaving the Carrickfergus man to narrowly pip his team-mate to the line for fourth.
In race two, while Laverty was soloing to a superb victory, Alastair fought his way through from mid pack to take ten very valuable points in sixth place.

BSB Race 2 Results:
1.Michael Laverty (Relentless Suzuki by TAS)
2.Michael Rutter (Ridersmotorcycles.com Ducati) +6.00s
3.Tommy Hill (Worx Crescent Suzuki) +11.333s
4.Ryuichi Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda) +16.029s

April's Relentless Energy Sessions

Posted on 13/4/10

Relentless have certainly upped their game, if April's Session is anything to go by. Yet another fine selection of bands descended on the modest Islington venue last week to provide music hungry gig goers with a veritable banquet of beats and sounds, all as varied as their geographical origin...

As the crowd began to gather upstairs, the change in demographic was duly noted: that previous stench of youth had been replaced by a faint tang of sophistication. This month's Session raised the entertaining stakes with resident DJ Anthony Chalmers on hand for tasteful musical interludes. Kickstarting the party with the ultimate warm up soundtrack, he blasted out tunes from Veronica Falls to Caribou and Drum Eyes. Heaving bodies restlessly shuffled their feet in anticipation of what lay ahead...
Sydney five-piece Dappled Cities were first up. Bringing some of that celebrated Aussie sunshine to a dull and rainy North London, the band had also brought their fanclub along for the ride. This may have been the band's first UK show, but Dappled Cities are not new to this game, as their fans were quick to point out. With a handle on multi-vocal, mellifluous indie-pop with instrumental disco beats and radiophonic dimensions, here is a band who know the merits of keeping an open mind. Front man Tim 'Tomahawk' Derricourt's on stage writhing could certainly have given Beck a run for his money too...

The musical direction of the evening took a dramatic turn, as easy breezy sunshine pop took on the bellowing roar of a stadium sized rock god. Taking their cue from a Neil Young protest song about the Kent State shootings Four Dead in Ohio blew the crowd away with their fiery, anthemic blues, a sound which could easily have filled a 10,000 capacity venue, and more. Revellers adjusted to the shift in mood by loosening their limbs and soaking up the Gallagher-esque swaggers...

Northern bands are predictable creatures. However hard they try, they just can't seem to shake off that Joy Division vibe. But everybody loves a bit of post-punk, don't they? You may be surprised to hear that The Violet May actually hail from Sheffield, not Manchester. But they are far removed from the indie schmindie sounds of Rotherham's finest scallywags, the Arctic Monkeys. Beginning on an ominous post-punk note, the band gradually morph into uplifting blues guitar as they channel that unwavering spirit of anarchy with their kamikase stage antics. The Violet May are no shrinking violets, that's for sure. This band are as mean and moody as they come, thanks in main to the the towering presence that is Chris McClure and his penchant for microphone acrobatics. Although you know he's just teasing: there's a smile lurking somewhere beneath that pensive exterior. With their gargantuan stage presence and thunderous guitars, The Violet May have clearly been sent from the heavens to revive the fading spirit of good old fashioned rock and roll. Familiarise yourself with these mugshots, for you will definitely be seeing a lot more of them this year...An electrifying, if not slightly terrifying, live show,

Sian Alice Group's performance was perfectly timed to catch the audience at their most responsive and to lead them off to the land of nod with a wonderfully blissed-out soundtrack. The effect was spellbinding, to say the least. Here is a band that extol the virtues of a subtle performance: intricately layered, sumptious utterances were draped over skillfull multi-instrumentation This was sleep-inducing euphoria, a la Mum or other such experimental Icelandic wizardry. A little bit of low-core goes a long way and it was a pleasant surprise to hear the dulcet tones of a female vocalist, at a night that is usually overrun with all-male outfits. A breathtaking end to dazzling night.

Tyler in Alaska part two

Posted on 12/4/10

After enjoying the first part of their trip in and around anchorage, Tyler and the boys were ready to check out Valdez.

“We knew the drive was going to be around 6 hours so we thought we'd break up the journey to go see a glacier on the way. A man called Bill took us up on the back of his sled; along with his rifle in case any bears would be hanging around...The sight was amazing!
When we arrived in Valdez it turned out we were staying in the same place as everyone doing the Tailgate so it was nice to see some familiar faces and meet some true legends.
The weather was on our side for this week. Unfortunately a couple of days into filming and getting to know the area our Kamchatkanamerican/mechanic/shuttler/party leader/mega dude Sergey hurt his knee and had to head back to Anchorage to see the doc...We are hoping it’s not bad news and he recovers quickly.
After Sergey left, the chaos began. On the first morning out Pasha and I both managed to roll our sleds and send them flipping down the mountain and then Arthur managed to drive his sled through the back window of our truck while loading up...then the bad weather rolled in.”

Stay tuned for part 3!

Relentless Strakka scored an emphatic win in the opening round of the 2010 Le Mans series

Posted on 12/4/10

It was a dominant performance that clinched all the accolades. "To turn up for Round 1, our first race in LMP2 after the move from LMP1, and secure pole, fastest lap, a race win and the championship lead, is simply beyond all our expectations," said a delighted Danny Watts. "It's absolutely brilliant!"

From the pole position secured by Danny Watts on Saturday, Jonny Kane made a fantastic start to the race, stamping his authority on the class within the first lap and then extending a lead that grew steadily with every tour of the 5.8 kilometre circuit. By the end of the first hour Jonny had risen to fifth overall, relishing a tremendous yet un-relenting duel with Nigel Mansell in the Beechdean Mansell LMP1 along the way. The Ulsterman eventually won that private battle and handed over to Danny Watts with a commanding class lead.

This continues a very successful start to the season across the board in motorsport, showing the kind of grit and determination we have come to expect from all the Relentless sponsored teams and athletes.

British super bike podiums

Posted on 9/4/10

Alastair Seeley Brand hatch

Relentless athlete Alastair Seeley sits proudly in third place in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship after the opening two races at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday.

The series rookie’s spectacular fourth place in race one was bettered in the second outing with a strong podium finish of 3rd, boosted by the fastest lap of the race against his more experienced rivals.

Michael Laverty had the misfortune to retire from the opening race after his bike disappeared in a cloud of smole, but the former British Supersport champion bounced back in race two, finishing fourth just behind his team-mate on his Relentless Suzuki GSX–R1000 Superbike.

Both riders showed courage and determination on race day, battling through the pack on the short and demanding Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. Seeley fought through to third in race one after a mediocre start, sweeping past title favourites Stuart Easton and Josh Brookes – only losing out on a debut podium to James Ellison by half a second.

Across the pond Australian Cameron Donald warmed up for the international road racing season with two Irish Superbike wins at Kirkistown's short circuit meeting.

The Relentless TAS Suzuki star saw off the challenge of runner-up Marshall Neill in both races with two prolific rides seeing him 2 seconds quicker than the competition per lap.
This starts a very successful season in the superbike racing circuit in both the UK and Ireland seeing relentless as serious title contenders as the season unfolds.

Xavier in AK

Posted on 7/4/10

Xavier AK

“Just got to AK 4 days ago. Two standard films crews are on site, on one side Kevin Jones and Mark Carter getting shot by Chris Ondercin and Curley for stills. On our side Sammy Luebke joined the euros composed by Guido Perrini on the filming duty, Tero Repo taking pics and myself. We've been so far pretty lucky with already two good days and more to come. Sammy is ripping and got straight away into our program... Most of all, snow is great, stable... we have some good lines in the head, not much more to say than that we are pretty stocked to be up here! The end of the week seems sunny so just have a look at the pictures... no need to say that it might be pretty sick....fingers crossed!”

Tyler Chorlton reaches Alaska

Posted on 6/4/10

Tyler Chornton

After trying to deal with the lack of snow in Europe Tyler Chorlton and some of his other Pirate Movies team mates made the 26 hour journey to Anchorage AK, for a 3 week sled trip to find winter snow again.

“After the airline losing our luggage is wasn’t until 7am the next morning it was time to boost! After the drive north with the Russian/Alaskan tour guide Sergey, sleds were unloaded and we’d arrived at one of the most breathtaking and insane views of the mountains. We hit our first session and decided to venture out further into the valley, we were sledding over some enormous slides that had come down some days before and the vastness of the place made you feel so small. When you spot a feature in AK you realize once you get up close that its about 5 times bigger than you previously thought and that if you hit it you'd probably die or even worse...The end of the day was approaching fast and to save a 2 to 3 hour drive back to Anchorage we stayed in a Lodge close by.

Next morning, sore as a bitch we unloaded the sleds once again. On the way in we spotted a zone we had missed on the previous day’s session...Some shots in the bag for everyone, stoked, time to head back to the city to recover while the bad weather passes over and dumps its dump.
Stay tuned for part 2!”

UKPSA and BSA work together to develop the GB Team Selection Process

Posted on 6/4/10

The Relentless sponsored UK Pro Surf Tour have just announced a decision to work alongside the British Surfing Association to develop and select the British Junior Team for the 2011 world championships and beyond.

The GB team selection process has been rewritten to include 3 of the UKPST events as well the BSA sanctioned British Schools Championships and the British Junior Championships.

The move is seen as a step forward in the development of youth surfing in the UK, and will encourage those young surfers who want to represent their country to surf against some of the best pro surfers in the UK and Europe. The UK Pro Surf Tour is the professional arm of UK surfing attracting surfers from all over the world to compete. This year a full tour of Pro Junior (under 20s) events is scheduled as well as women’s events meaning that our young UK surfers have the opportunity to surf above their division and compete against some excellent surfer and ultimately raise their surfing ability

The BSA sees this as the first step of bringing professional development and performance into the GB squad and also re-engaging all the young surfers of Great Britain. Dave Reed of the UKPSA told us “I am thrilled that 3 of the events will be qualifying events for the GB team. The quality of surfing on the Pro Tour has gone up year by year and we are now getting interest from surfers who live abroad and want to come to the UK to compete; this will ultimately raise the level even higher and give our home-grown young surfers the ability to surf against internationals without having to leave the UK.”

Jenny Jones wins Gold again!

Posted on 18/3/10

Jenny Jones had yet another another Gold medal under her belt after last weekend’s first European X Games tournament in Tignes, France, making it her 3rd consecutive claim on the X Games gold medal.

After qualifying 1st on Wednesday, she went into Friday's final with confidence nailing huge frontside and backside 360’s over the difficult 8 hit course finishing with a perfect frontside 720, earning her the winning score of 92.33.

“It feels amazing to win so close to home, and there were so many fans from the UK out there,” Jones said about the competition. “It was great to show my fans that the British can ride.” Jenny told ESPN.

Xavier De Le Rue wins first place!

Posted on 18/3/10

Xavier De Le Rue has taken first place in the third stage of the Freeride World Tour, which took place yesterday in Silverado, Squaw Valley, California.

Although Xavier was ready and excited about the idea to challenge Tram Face, which would have fit Xavier’s style of riding, however the pitch ended up being the more playful in Silverado due to dangerous conditions.

The competition took a “best of two runs” format, which gave the riders chance to go for it a bit stronger than usual.

Xavier Jordan, snowboard head judge commented on Xavier’s run after the results were announced. “He did an amazing second run! Xavier went fast and without hesitation, he stomped a frontside 360° at the top then went for double cliff and ended up with a huge air on a cliff at the bottom, the whole run without any mistakes!”

Strakka complete very successful test

Posted on 18/3/10

Strakka Racing emerged as front-runners in LMP2 after a very successful Le Mans Series test at the Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet in southern France.

With a brisk Alpine wind cutting across the track, conditions were hardly ideal, but the team’s new HPD ARX-01c in the hands of Danny Watts, Nick Leventis and Jonny Kane set fastest time in three out of the five sessions, including Sunday evening’s run through to midnight.

The next race is the 8 Hours of Le Castellet it takes place on Sunday April 11th, starting at 11:00am.

Positive Cartagena test for Relentless Suzuki

Posted on 15/3/10

Relentless Suzuki British Superbike riders Michael Laverty and Alastair Seeley posted impressive times during the team’s opening test session of the year at Cartagena in Spain last weekend; with road men Cameron Donald and Bruce Anstey also reacquainting themselves with their 2010 Suzuki equipment.
Laverty took his GSX–R1000 Suzuki into the low one minute 34s, which was on a par with the best times at the test, and Seeley also dipped into the magical 34-second bracket to end a successful four-day stint. Both riders completed over 100 laps.

Niki Croft and his experience of Shanghai

Posted on 23/2/10

So a while back, myself and a small group of us set off on a journey to experience a location completely new to our repertoire of BMX road trips. We travelled from the British countryside to the heat waves and heavy oil cash flow through Bahrain to our destination of Shanghai, China.

The first time I visited China in 2008 I knew it would be so different to any other country I’d visited before on riding trips. Visiting a communist country that doesn’t speak a word of English but offering the world’s largest skate park was going to be interesting to say the least.

The trip was so incredible that 12 months later we booked to go back to the same location to the film for The Make, a video that has been 2 years in production.

Every day in Shanghai has something new to offer whether you are on or off your bike. The first couple of days we were really just trying to figure out where we were on maps, what food we should/shouldn’t be eating and trying to adjust to the ultimate of all smoggy cities.

There are so many ledges and blocks in shanghai that I felt like I was playing Tetris scoring points by knocking them into shape with all sorts of grinding manoeuvres. The world renowned skate park was about 40 minutes ride from our hostel and every ride that took us there felt epic, passing through big industrial business buildings through to the little villages to the long open road that led us to the park.

What can be said about the Skate park, huge?! The smallest concrete bowl was 7ft, the largest at 18ft with pool coping and a capsule the size of your house with the Blackpool's big dipper as a roll-in, everything there was so good you couldn't ride it all in one day there so much to it.

Seeing how much the country had changed from my first trip in 2008 to the following year was not that surprising, China moves at such a fast pace you wouldn’t believe it until you’ve seen it in person.

If you ride BMX, hate comfort zones and want to see something new every day then get yourself there! If you want to see more from our trip then keep your eyes out for 'THE MAKE 3' Video

February?s Relentless Energy Session Raises The Relentless Garage Roof!

Posted on 23/2/10

The Relentless Energy Sessions was a rip-roaring occasion this month, with four sizzling new acts taking to the stage upstairs at the Relentless Garage.

Kicking off proceedings with an infectious roar was Hope and State, think Green Day meets Jetplane Landing with strangely familiar Roddy Woomble-esque vocals, and you're on the right tracks. Next up, and keeping with the post-rock vibe, were the excellent Social Club, who leaped around like a box of jumping beans while the Relentless Garage became awash with flailing limbs as the crowd formed an impromptu mosh pit.

Following Social Club, it was back to good old fashioned dirty rock and roll, and The Federals were arguably at the top of their game at this, drumming up the audience with their toe-tapping anthemic, garage-rock. And last, but certainly not least, were headliners Skeletons & the Empty Pockets, who finished this month's Relentless Energy Session in true, exhibitionist style. Launching into their set with the velocity of a speeding bullet, front man Liam Creamer was certainly not backwards about coming forwards, impressing us all with his writhing stage moves and kamikaze crowd invasion.

Following February’s belting showcase, the Relentless Energy Sessions return to The Relentless Garage next month with The Dead Formats, Turbowolf, The Smoking Hearts and Anonymous Tip all vying for your attention.

Xavier's latest win

Posted on 11/2/10

Xavier de Le Rue has won the second stage of the Freeride World Tour, the Nissan Russian Adventure by Swatch. The event was relocated in Chamonix due to weather and avalanche risks in Russia, on the North-East face of l’aiguille pourrie.

The contest site allowed riders to make choices between relatively mellow terrain with freestyle options or fast steep line Alaska style. Xavier decided to go for the latter. He performed in typical de Le Rue style, combining fluid fast turns with radical cliff drop and clean landings. His breathtaking line was unequalled for the rest of the competition and gave Xavier the advantage of defending his back-to-back Freeride World Champ titles.

Xavier commented;
“I was already in Chamonix few days ago for the freeride world tour and I had big crashes, totally eaten by the pressure. I didn’t recognise myself as I did such stupid mistakes. Today there was this line that really attracted me and looked really natural. I went in there, the snow was great, I forgot about the contest, I just had fun and it paid off, it’s a really good and I’m stoked to be going to the Olympics with that victory. It kind of reminds me where I’m from and that’s good.”

Lolo Besse FRA, the Judge on Men’s Snowboard Comments on the Podium Runs ?“A superb choice of line, very fast, committed and solid. A true ‘Xavier de Le Rue line’!

Jenny Jones gets Gold at the Winter X Games

Posted on 1/2/10

Jenny Jones proved her 2009 X-Games win last year was not just a one-time deal, defending her position with flawless rail work, 540s and a 720 to claim first place two years in a row. Her biggest threat for Gold, Jamie Anderson threw down some technical manoeuvres on the top rail section, but just couldn't put her last jump down clean on the money booter.

It came down to the wire, but Jenny remained the most consistent rider in the field, with a flawless opening run. This enabled her to go for her tricks on the second and third attempts at this daunting course, which proved a perfectly calculated decision. Unbeknownst to the crowd and the rest of the field, she rode the finals with a massively swollen knee. In her words, ‘the size of a grapefruit’! However she put together stylish rails combos followed by a backside 540, cab 540, to backside 720. After a short wait for the rest of the field to finish, the results proved once again that the British Relentless rider had clinched the victory. Congratulations Jenny!

Kerrang! Relentless Tour Kicks off in Emerald Style!

Posted on 25/1/10

Dublin, Ireland was treated to a one-two punch on Friday and Saturday, as the Kerrang! Relentless Energy tour played its first double header to sell-out crowds. Young Guns opened the proceedings with bruising accuracy, and My Passion didn’t disappoint. The Blackout put on a thoroughly entertaining set, pumping up the crowd with their dual vocals, huge riffs and witty banter. Americans, All Time Low took to the stage in front of a crowd left chomping at the bit for over an hour due to technical difficulties, but did not disappoint. Their signature sing-along choruses and good times attitude brought the house down.

Relentless North West 200 - new title sponsor!

Posted on 15/1/10

The launch event for the Relentless North West 200 took place in Belfast on Tuesday morning announcing our new title sponsorship and greater involvement with the historical Ireland Road Race.

The week-long event starts Saturday, May 15 and hosts a full week of events, crowds in excess of 150,000 people as well as some of the world’s top riders.

Race Director Mervyn Whyte MBE, right, said:“The Relentless brand very much captures the spirit of the sport and we are delighted to welcome Relentless to the International North West 200”.

Relentless have backed the Ireland based TAS Suzuki team for the past 3 years, within that time being a part of their 6 podium finishes. The Relentless TAS Suzuki line up for 2010 will be Bruce Anstey and Cameron Donald, who will ride in all three classes Super Bike, Super Sport and Super Stock. Relentless also have an ace card In the form of Ulsterman Alastair Seeley who will be riding the Super Stock and Super Sport classes.

Competition in this international arena will be very fierce, and the race is only set to grow in stature and size, with its new title sponsor of Relentless. The race takes place between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart, and Coleraine off the northern coast of Ireland from the 8th to the 15th March.
The North West 200 motorcycle race has been running since 1929 and is held each May in Northern Ireland, using public roads. The circuit between the towns Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine (the Triangle) is considered among the fastest in the world, with speeds topping 200mph on occasion, and enters the outskirts of those towns, passing many private houses. To facilitate this, street signs are removed at parts of the track and bales of hay used to wrap the base of lampposts and telegraph poles in case of an accident. It is one of around fifteen events run on public roads between April and October throughout the island of Ireland. In 2006 it was the highest attended sporting event in Island of Ireland, with an estimated 150,000 people from Ireland, Britain, Europe and beyond descending on the "Triangle" for the week of the 8th to the 15th May.

Joe Tyler's new ski venture, The All Mountain Academy

Posted on 21/12/09

Well it's the beginning of the season! The opening day had to be put back a week due to the lack of snow but a storm that came in last week really made up for it with some early season deep powder! This winter myself and two friends, Joe Harkess and David Kling-Odencrants, launched a "New School" ski Coaching academy in Mayrhofen - The All Mountain Academy.

We setup the Academy was because there really isn't anyone actively coaching people over the entire mountain or to a high enough level. We all see the future of the sport because we are part of it right now! We all train, compete & push the boundaries so we can keep progressing. What we really want to do is offer our knowledge, through what we have learnt, experienced and are still learning.

We want to make it easier for people to enjoy the whole mountain - Our programs are catered so people can get the most out of each session with us, Pre course meet - so we know what you want to achieve, Instant on the hill video feedback - so we can show you how to improve, Post Course action plan - so you know what to work on and what can help. We also only operate small groups of maximum 5-6 people so groups are not over crowded like the normal ski schools.

These days, kids are hitting the park and the powder more and more and the level is progressing so fast - the generic ski schools are being left behind. Here in Mayrhofen the Academy is at the forefront in offering these services backed by the credentials of Pro Riders. We basically want to get more people involved in the sport!

For more information on programs and team members please check out www.allmountainacademy.com

Relentless welcomes James Yuill to the family

Posted on 6/10/09

James cut his teeth performing in bands, whilst always simultaneously creating his own music in his bedroom studio. Dissatisfied with the band dynamic, he decided to venture on his own and create what had always been brewing inside.

Like many music lovers of his generation James Yuill has a passion for both the emotional songwriting and atmospheres of artists such as Nick Drake, Radiohead and Sufjan Stevens and the visceral beats and dynamic rhythms of Justice, Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin. Unlike anyone else however, James has fused these seemingly disparate influences into a magical sound of his very own, something that hasn't gone un-noticed something that hasn't gone un-noticed by radio, with DJs including Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, Zane Lowe and John Kennedy all championing him on air.

James has created an exclusive mix for us, of some of his favourite tracks of the moment which can be downloaded below.

Nurturing British Surfing

Posted on 2/10/09

The 2009 Oakley XPY Pro Junior’s took place at Newquay’s Fistral beach earlier this month to excellent surf conditions and a fantastic turn out of the country’s best in up and coming surf talent.

Relentless supported surfer Jayce Robinson stood out in the Pro Junior category, cleaning up with 1st place as well as scooping the 'Globe Highest scoring wave trophy' and The Relentless money manoeuvre.

Jayce’s next move will be to the Canary Island’s on the 20th of this month to take part in the Ocean & Earth Pro, 2 star WQS before finishing the UKPST in Cornwall towards the back end of the year.

Over the winter Jayce will take on a full training regime in Indonesia and Australia under the guidance of International surf brand Rip Curl. As this is Jayce’s final year on the Pro Juniors, he’ll training with some of the World’s best coaches in preparation for the World Qualifying Series Tour next year, hoping to achieve a foothold on the World’s most challenging surfing circuit. Over 250 surfers compete year round on the WQS for a place on the coveted ‘Dream Tour’ – the World Championships Tour, attended by the top 46 in the world and dominated this year by Mick Fanning.

Dom Harington gets ready for London Freeze

Posted on 17/9/09

Dom Harrington London Freeze

Relentless snowboarder Dom Harington has been following the FIS world cup half pipe tour over the past year and with help from his sponsors and an Olympic scholarship, Dom has been able to get to every contest across the globe. Dom is set to hit the London Freeze event from 31st October.

“Only the top 40 riders in the world get to go to the Olympics so qualifying is really tough as the standard of pipe riding has just had another surge forwards. Back-to-back 1080s are now pretty normal and you don’t see many airs less than 8 feet. Shaun White had his own pipe with foam pits especially built so he could learn double corks and then last week I saw him and a few others do 6 different kinds of double cork! Sick to watch, intimidating when you're dropping in next!

I just got 28th here in New Zealand, the first event of the season, with a Backside 9, back to back sevens and a frontside 9. I’m 43rd on the ranking list so hopefully I’ll get my 1080s solid enough to get some good results in the next two contests. My goal is set on moving into the top 40 before January.”

Reflecting on the recent World Cup qualification sessions and the Burton NZ half pipe tour contest, judge Ste’en Webster said, “There's been more progression in the sport in the last two weeks than the last two years thanks to two world-class competitions and Cardrona’s world-class pipe. There's this Olympic drive pushing everyone on but it couldn't have happened without events like the Winter Games” Expect to see some of the World’s best skier’s and snowboarders at Battersea Power Station for the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup and International Freestyle Ski Comp, details at www.londonfreeze.com

Success For Relentless Superbike Riders

Posted on 15/9/09

Ian Lowry is currently seventh in the overall standings, with a best result of fourth, while former Japanese Superbike Champion Atsu Watanabe is 28th. The Japanese maestro has found it very hard racing in the UK, not being used to the undulating gritty tracks.

Seeley wrapped up the Superstock title in dominant fashion at Cadwell Park, his unbeaten run of nine victories this year ensuring him the trophy three rounds early. Seeley, not only recorded clean sweeps at three rounds of the championship this season on the relentless GSX-R1000, at Donington Park, Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park, but also claimed four circuit lap records.

It is the second British Championship title in the past three-years for the Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing Team, after winning the Supersport series in 2007 with Michael Laverty.

Relentless Motorcross Team Update

Posted on 14/9/09

Martin Barr

Martin’s race program included the British Supercross series, The British Open championship, British Masters, Red Bull Pro Nationals and the premier Maxxis British championship, over 30 race events in all.
The 6th and most recent round at Foxhill at the end of July saw Martin equal 3rd overall on points and another climb up the leader board to 4th in the championship.

Scott Probert

Unfortunately a crash in January on a slippery track was to cause Scott to have to sit out the first 3 championship races in 2009. He returned to racing at the end of April and some promising rides saw him break through into the top ten for speed only to suffer fatigue in the final portion of the races. Unfortunately Scott suffered a season ending injury on Spring Bank holiday Monday with multiple fractures and dislocation of his ankle.

Scott Columb

We contacted Scott in New Zealand in mid February to see if he would fill in for the injured Scott Probert for the first 3 championship races in March. Scott came over and instantly got results for the team. Top ten finishes in the MX1 class at the Maxxis and a 2nd overall at round 1 of the Masters. Scott lies 6th in the ultra competitive MX1 class of the Maxxis British championship which is no mean feat.

Matt Burrows

16-year-old Matt Burrows joined the team following a successful season of club championship youth races in the Midlands. Matt currently leads the British Masters MXY2 championship, finished 8th in the Maxxis MXY2 championship and took a super 7th place in an under 21 British championship race. A star in the making, one to watch all the way to the top.

With divisions and categories in place to cater for varying ability levels, qualifying rounds will commence on Friday 18th September with the finals set to take place on Saturday.

In addition, King Of Cable sponsors, Relentless Energy, will be providing Europe’s biggest wakeboarding obstacle ‘The Leviathan’ for Athletes on which to battle. Turbowolf's Explosive 2009 Tour

Posted on 8/9/09

Relentless welcomes Turbowolf to the family. This Bristolian quartet are making a name for themselves on the live circuit with an explosive live show, and a sound reminiscent of the most visceral punk bands of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s combined. With a fresh hint of electronica blended into bruising riffery, and hooky choruses, the boys blow down barriers, we didn’t even know existed.

Charity Skate Park The Works Has Summer Success

Posted on 8/9/09

Relentless sponsored charity skatepark The Works in Leeds, have just finished their summer campaign offering free entry to under 18’s for the 6 weeks of summer. The promotion resulted in over 8,500 skaters and BMX’ers through the doors, some travelling from as far as Brighton.

The staggeringly high number of eager core sports enthusiasts reaffirms the demand for core sports and the ever increasing number of participants, nationwide. Relentless have been supporting several skate parks across the country in their quest to grow and regenerate. In many circumstances, local skate parks are the back bone of the community, a refuge for kids who want to stay off the streets and channel their energy into something meaningful, or a place where camaraderie and new talent emerges.

Waiving the entry fee for the summer was a bold move for The Works as like every other park in the country, it’s their main source of income. The results have definitely been worth the cause with National recognition and a much needed boost for the profile of indoor skate parks, check out http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8183789.stm

Loch Stock Wakeboarding Tour

Posted on 7/9/09

Loch Stock Wakeboarding Relentless Energy
This summer Relentless supported Scotland’s Loch Stock Wakeboard tour, although seemingly just another series of contests to add to the season's Calendar, what Gordy Forsythe and crew have put together has enabled is a real chance for wakeboarding in Scotland to progress. There are few wakeboard boat contests on the UK scene, and next to nothing going on up in Scotland. There is a wealth of talent in this part of the world as well as the UK and while there are grass roots contest like this, that talent has a chance to shine through.

Loch Stock has made a name for itself as far more than just a competition, and the overwhelming response the tour has got from all over the UK proves that. Over 50 riders competed in the tour, making Loch Stock Scotland’s largest wakeboard event, but the numbers that speak the loudest are the miles that people travelled to show their support for the Scottish scene. From Lake Windemere to London, and even South Africa; every person there made Loch Stock 2009 what it was.

The final 3rd homecoming leg saw the biggest turnout to date, and a marked step up in the standard of riding since it’s beginning back in May. Expert coaching was lent by Matt Crowhurst at the first stop and UK legend Chris Woodhead, names that stood out throughout the tour were Ally Beaven, Ali Snowie and Jenny Parker, to name just a few.

To keep up to speed on Loch Stock keep an eye on Loch-Stock.com, or check out the Facebook group and get involved in the community.

Seeley wins championship with three races remaining

Posted on 4/9/09

Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing’s Alastair Seeley clinched the National 1000cc Superstock Championship title at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire; the Ulsterman doing so in fine style on his 2009 GSX-R1000, taking win number nine of the season to maintain his one 100% record in the Championship.

This is TAS Racing’s second British Championship title in only three years, having won the Supersport series in 2007 with yet another Irishman, Michael Laverty. Seeley’s season in Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing livery can be described without fear or favour, as faultless and masterful. The County Antrim rider has recorded 15 race wins without defeat since joining the Moneymore-based Suzuki team at the end of April, again proving the pedigree of Suzuki’s current range of GSX-R machinery.

Seeley has recorded clean sweeps at three rounds this season on the 2009 GSX-R1000: Donington Park, Brands [2] and Cadwell Park - topping the time sheets in all three qualifying sessions whilst adding six fastest laps and four circuit lap records to his CV.

He can also boast an outright circuit lap record at Kirkistown in Northern Ireland, again recorded on his Superstock GSX-R1000 Relentless Suzuki during an Irish Superbike round. Seeley has recorded six wins from six starts in the Irish series to date, again, all posted on his Superstock machine.

Alastair Seeley:
“I really didn’t expect that this weekend and I didn’t expect Brogan to DNF. I didn’t even know he was out of the race, which I suppose wasn’t a bad thing as I was just concentrating on reeling the laps off. It’s been a great year so far and I just couldn’t fault the effort of the team or the 2009 GSX-R1000. I’m well chuffed for Philip and Hector Neill as they gave me the chance at the start of the year, and also a big thanks to Ian Glen, Suzuki GB and Relentless for putting their faith in me.”

The Greenaway Pro

Posted on 26/8/09

Relentless supports The Greenaway Pro, a charity surf contest set up this year, that will take place in St Ives on the 4th/5th September. Set to be a huge annual fixture in the south-west’s calender, The ‘Greenaway Pro’ is a celebration of the memory of Tom Greenaway, whose untimely passing had a profound effect on the local surf scene.

With over £1500 of prize money and over £3,500 worth of prizes, the event will feature many of the UK’s top surf stars, many of whom were close friends with Tom, including Relentless rider Tom Lowe. The contest will conclude at an after party in St Ives with Mickey Smith’s band ‘The Strays’ playing live in the town’s Guildhall.

Tickets for the after-party are £8 available from Academy in St.Ives, and online at www.mattsmithsurfing.co.uk/greenawaypro/ where entries are also being taken for the surf contest. This year’s proceeds will be donated to charities such as Greenpeace, Water Aid, SAS and the RNLI who employed Tom Greenaway as a lifeguard. Relentless Wakeboarding Tour with the Alliance Ride Guide written by Matt Crowhurst

Relentless Wakeboarding Tour with the Alliance Ride Guide

Relentless Wakeboarding Tour with the Alliance Ride Guide

What better way to start the 09 season then getting on the road with a good crew, and checking what the British wakeboard scene has to offer. That is exactly what myself, Nick Davies and Jonty Green did along with the Alliance crew of Tim Woodhead and Sim Bradley withTim Royal of White No Sugar Productions in tow who’d be filming the whole shebang for the worlds viewing pleasure.

The basic plan was to get some good riding in all the forms that the UK has to offer, from riding on the sea, to hitting up a cable and even winching in spots that we might not have been supposed to – OK, there was no ‘might’ about it!

Our week kicked off in Surrey, where the crew gathered ready to load up our rather pimped out Relentless trucks with kit, hook my Sea Doo jetski to the back of one of them and hit the road. Couple of hours later we’d got to a rather beautiful part of the UK to meet up with our first local consort. Harry Fitzgerald of Gravity Wakeboarding was our host in Poole, Dorset. We’d be heading out with him on his very sweet Nautique 230 the following morning but first we had our first winching mission to undertake.

To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure where we were headed, but the destination turned out to be a pretty meaty weir jump. A good 20 feet in length which was only achievable because the overall drop was probably about 10 feet. Seems a habbit of mine to lose the game of spud to see who goes first, so I was to take break this little spot in. Seems the drop was more than doable and I would infact like to head back there and session it again. Timmy and Jonts also got a play right before the heavens opened and we made a bee-line back to Poole.

Next up was our first boat session and having dropped my jetski which was to be used as photo boat we were all ready for dawn patrol. Weather forecasts weren’t looking good for our week but good old blighty pulled it out the bag for us. Crystal skies and butter calm water – nice!

The week had got off to a sick start but the next winching mission didn’t come off so well with a rather awkward spot, freezing water and a lot of clambering through reed beds – that’s winching though! We canned the mission and headed to Quayside Wake & Ski for some more quality boat riding time, something that is hard to come by in the UK.

The following day was to be a Cable mission, sessioining Princes cable first and then WakeMK, both venues laying it on for us and the weather holding out yet again. That evening we decided to make the journey north instead of chilling in Milton Keynes, grabbing a rather dodgy Travel Lodge night’s sleep and a less brutal wake-up time the next day. One dirty plastic fry-up for everyone and we were good for our penultimate day of riding and a little visited Wakeboard Club, Bomere. This veritable oasis that the entire Wakeboard community pass on their way to Wakestock every year sits just off the M54 near Shrewsbury.

Sunk in a small valley, surrounded by lush greenery and an imposing ring of trees lining the shore it was blowing a gale but the water was unaffected. The rain still managed to get us, though there were fleeting rays of sunshine, both of which didn’t really matter in the end. Because we had flat water, and our ride for the day turned up putting a smile on all our faces. Thank you Midland Nautique for the usage of their quite stunning Byrely Edition 210 for the day giving us yet more big wake fun. Now, I don’t get to ride a big old fat wake that often, but dam did I enjoy this session. Just enough kick but not too steep giving you more than enough boot, I’ll definitely be tapping up these boys for another play on their boat.

With 4 days of good times, on and off the water, a fair few miles under our belt and about 40+ cans of Relentless’ guzzled, the only way to finish the weak was to not only push our ‘alternative riding experiences’ but also push the boundaries of what is actually legal on British Waterways. Camden Locks was home to us for the second time in less than 6 months. We hit this little spot just outside the MTV studios and spitting distance from Camden High street the day after Railmasters in October ‘08, at some silly hour in the morning. Bloody freezing it was then and rewarding but arduous to say the least. Bring on some summer sun, a whole host of onlookers innocently basking in the rays while taking their lunch and you have a perfect way to round off a road trip.

Kent James had joined us for the day and he took to the water first, reminding us all that he’s still one of the UK’s style masters on a board, dropping methods, solid grabbed 3’s and BS 1’s. As is often the case with wakeboarding, the knees bore the brunt of the fun and Kent’s back knee gave way. We felt his pain and totally realise this sort of thing can happen to us at any time. Not letting the constant niggle in the back of our minds detract from the possibility of more wakeboarding progression we cracked on. I took to the stage next and managed to stomp the wall ride out of the Lock jump that had eluded me last time as well as a couple of other lines. The last line in fact while Timmy was dealing with the fun Police, or just Police as they are also known. I squeezed in one last hit before some doddery old git felt it necessary to complain about something that wasn’t affecting him in the slightest and was entertaining a lot of people in the process. Come to expect this sort of thing but we got a bit of time down there which can’t be sniffed at.

The conclusions drawn from our exploration of the British Wakeboard scene, it is the D’s B’s and is there for everyone. OK, the weather is sometimes not quite on our side, OK, most of the time, but there are some sick Cable Parks, and bucket load of coastline there you are never too far from as well as a Ski Club a lot closer to you than you might think – so get out there and get stuck in!

Seeley's Record Breaking 8th Win

Posted on 13/8/09

Alistair Seeley Win

At the weekend he won his 8th consecutive National Super stock race. Breaking the lap record by over a second. This feat has never before been accomplished in the British super bike championship.

Seeley’s display of dominance started in the opening free practice session and the Carrickfergus man was never headed in any of the qualifying sessions all weekend. In the two-part race that produced two red flags, Seeley led both in prolific style; setting a new Superstock lap record in the first outing; and actually dipping under the European Superstock record by almost a second

Relentless Aerial Assault returns to Fistral!

Posted on 5/8/09

The UK’s only Tow-At Aerial contest, the Relentless Aerial Assault will return this week to Newquay’s Fistral Beach as part of the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans Action Sports and Music festival.

This is 2nd only time this contest format has been held in the UK, and since it’s launch last year has been eagerly anticipated by the surfers competing at the Boardmasters.

The Aerial Assault surf contest uses jet ski’s to sling shot surfers into the waves, allowing them to hit the wave face with a ‘boost’ for maximum air, enabling the surfer to pull off huge aerial tricks otherwise virtually impossible in small conditions.

Last year’s winner, Australian WQS surfer Matt Wilkinson, claimed 1st prize with a massive 360 grab (see image above) and it’s expected that at least 30 of this year’s WQS contest surfers will be throwing down more of the same, competing for the £1,000 prize money, courtesy of Relentless.

The contest will be held around the focus of the Boardmasters, the 5* World Qualifying Series contest. Fistral is forecast to receive head high surf and offshore wind conditions over the next couple of days as surfers compete to get through the crucial first stages, with swell dropping off towards the end of the week, it’s expected the Aerial Assault will take place on Friday, subject to the contest schedule and conditions.

It will definitely be worth witnessing British surfing history in the making so head to Fistral this week and check it out.

How the contest works

1. Surfers spin the Aerial Assault wheel of fortune to land on a trick they must perfect in the water eg; Big Air, 360 Grab, Biggest gouge

2. Man on Man (draw out of hat, no seeding)

3. Surfers are towed at the waves and attempt the chosen manoeuvre

4. Best of three attempts gets you through to the next round

5. £1,000 prize money – Winner takes all!

Round six of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship held at Foxhill in Wiltshire, proved to be a tough but positive weekend for the Relentless Suzuki MX team, with Martin Barr ending the day solidly to move one place higher in the series standings.

Qualifying a slightly disappointing seventh fastest, Barr would improve in the first MX2 race to come home in fifth place. Despite not being a huge fan of the Foxhill circuit, the RM-Z250 rider would challenge for the podium in race two, eventually settling for fourth place behind Zach Osbourne, to finish the day fourth overall and move up to fourth in the series standings.

Martin Barr: "In truth I'm not a huge fan of Foxhill and so it took me a while to get going. The first race was a little disappointing, but things felt much better in the second and we were challenging at the right end of the field. To come away higher up the series standings can only be positive and I'm just looking forward to getting to the next round in Scotland now."

East to West 6,500 Miles, by Niki Croft

Posted on 17/7/09

The trip was definitely not planned, you know how it is, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and say yes to everything. Me, Orlando and Tom O’Boyle just got the flight and headed to Florida to go see Ronnie B at Shadow and from then on things just got better and somehow worked out……..

5 hours after landing, we made it to a place called Milton, we heard this place had a sick concrete park but got there to find out it was ‘Skaters Only’, the local Skaters didn’t mind and were happy to welcome us but a nearby cop reassured us that it definitely was only skaters permitted. That first day was so wet; we just drove all day trying to avoid the rain, we didn’t get to ride after our skate park attempt, but made it to Alabama. We didn’t fully know where we were or heading, so we just thought it would be a good idea to just keep going west.

Our next stop was Louisiana. The place was nuts, driving through the suburbs to get downtown you see abandoned house after abandoned house, everything was so tired and covered in moss, the closer you got to downtown the cleaner and fresher things became, we couldn’t find much stuff to ride there, but it was good to see.

At this point we kind of started to plan a route to Phoenix Arizona, so figured out what we could bypass along the way to ride. Got to Houston on a really hot day and took a look downtown, I couldn’t believe how much it was like Canary Wharf, seriously you wouldn’t be able to spot the difference, pure business! The first spot we came to was a cool hop up to wedge, we started to get into the session when I took a good look around and realised how many police there were, homeless people, people in handcuffs and guys being escorted in boiler suits, We soon got thrown off when we were told it was the side of a jail we were riding. We came across so many sick spots but all of them were a complete shutdown. Got back to the car and the closest place was Austin, which can never let anyone down for good times.
After Austin - Next stop El Paso…

By now the scenery was getting so intense, for me anyway! You don’t get mountains in England like they had here and desert with mini tornados. This is where things started to get a bit sketchy… We thought we could save some money and camp, so we set off into the distance until a barrier confronted us saying ‘government property’, we cautiously set up our BBQ nearby, next to a rail track surrounded by the sound of coyotes howling.
We were so far away from anything. 20 minutes later in the dusty distance I see a car coming towards which happened to be border patrol, he kindly informed us that we were close to the Mexican border, a bit too close, and we shouldn’t really risk putting up camp here. So onwards to find a new spot to camp. Another spot was discovered in the middle of nowhere, flat ground and surrounded by mountains it looked surreal, until 20 minutes of being there a cowboy turned up. Hiding behind his truck door he questioned what we were doing. We were straight up with the guy as it was his land, he had no issue with us having a BBQ, the only issue he had, and has on a regular basis, is the Mexican drug dealers, he said a lot of deals go on and he has to carry a rifle and pistol around with him at all times ’cause they will shoot at him. Just before sunset we saw a truck in the distance thundering along at roughly 80mph on a dirt track that we’d struggled to do barely 20. The truck got towards the end of the track and lights were flashed back and forth from several other trucks which had suddenly appeared, everything paused for a couple of minutes then 2 trucks went back up the track going as fast as they came down it. Now it was dark and time for us to get out of the situation, the Yaris did us well on the dirt track!!
We arrived in El Paso and managed to find a park, it was skate only but we got to ride it anyway. It rode so good for left foot forward, hips everywhere. After an hour or so we left riding street in downtown El Paso and accidentally rode across the Mexican border!

niki croft

From there we headed to Chandler Park in Arizona. We managed to get an hour in before the lights turned off. We had no idea where we were going to sleep so we just went to a bar, a few beers later we somehow caught the attention of a blonde woman, she bought us all drinks and was real friendly, then out the blue she felt the need to tell us she calls herself a “MILF” and likes to hit on her sons mates, oh yea she was married by the way! She then tells us there’s a party going on and asks us if we want to go, which we aren’t going to turn down as we could find a place to stay for the night. We cram in the car and I am in the back, she grabs my hand and runs it up her dress and whispers to me something that you don’t need to hear!! We got to the party to find out it was her 18year old son’s birthday! We left pretty much straight away with the beers she bought as well. By this point it was 3am so we drove back into the desert, drank some beers and camped to the noise of coyotes.
Later in the evening when it cooled down we found a pool which looked like it had not been rode in ages so we cleaned it out and got a good evening session on it.

This is the kind of thing we were looking for on the trip. We now had a week left to get back for our flight. We drove until we got to San Antonio, a place we had never been before. On the highway we saw loads of flatbanks, and I mean loads! So we pulled over and rode them, then headed back to Houston for a Sunday night session. We actually got to ride Houston which was cool, so fun to ride around it. It was like a ghost town compared to last time. Got another Baton Rouge session in and went out in New Orleans to treat ourselves.

The place is so nuts, I’m glad I am not a proper tourist and ride bikes. You see things for what they really are sometimes. On the way back to the motel at about 4am the police pulled me and Orlando over on our BMX’s which made no sense what so ever to me. They cuffed us over the bonnet and went through every pocket, stripped my wallet down and kept asking if I had any drugs on me? I couldn’t help but just laugh at them. They were giving me this shit because I was so called “lane changing”, on a BMX?!?!?! Me and Orlando were like two school kids getting told off by the head teacher, drunkenly giggling like kids. I am seriously surprised we didn’t get into any proper shit with them. From there we just got back to Florida. Back into the rain. The weather sucked so bad. It was cool though, we got to ride one spot in three days! That spot was Maitland trannies, which are awesome!
Then it rained. We now had 2 days before we left to go home. On the last day I woke up with a swollen knee, I could barely lean on it. I spent most part of the last day in hospital but as it was the last day it didn’t really matter. We left Florida same as we arrived, in a place called Bar-B-Que reminding each other about the trip, over 6,500 miles in 3 weeks. I ate about three 99cent taco bells a day and drank my own body weight 5 times of water in Arizona, rode the best spots I have ever seen on videos and heard of.
Good friends, good places, good times!!

Animal Relentless Bike Tour

Posted on 16/7/09

The Animal Relentless Bike Tour will be taking over High Streets Nationwide to bring you one of the World’s best Mountain Bike Trials demo’s, featuring Sam Pilgrim and Martyn Ashton.

The Tour, which now boasts a new ’09 rig including a huge jump ramp and obscene trials obstacles featured at last weekend’s Relentless NASS event, the weather tested us all over the weekend but riders battled through, putting on some rad shows for the excitable Relentless NASS spectators.

“It was a great crowd but I was practising on new obstacles ‘live’ which felt pretty new. We have several new elements still to come so it’s going to be a very exciting tour”

Uniwake Student Nationals

Posted on 11/7/09

Uniwake Student Nationals

The term ‘going Wakeboarding’ doesn’t actually describe the sport at all. Yes, we do go round/up and down a lake, on a board, and some of us throw tricks and go upside down, BUT the term actually also encompasses big parties, sleeping in fields, and meeting people who are, pretty much, exactly like you… Welcome to the Uniwake Student Nationals.

Last year, Uniwake put together a committee to provide a governing body for all student wake boarders. Their main task was to bring more riders into the scene, and the Student Nationals, Uniwake’s major annual event, is the perfect way to end the academic year, and ensure a new generation of passionate riders.

This year, Uniwake secured a full partnership with Relentless Energy, and with the added backing of the BWSF, the Student Nationals became one of the biggest competitions in the UK, with 89 competitors in 10 categories over 4 days of competition.

As per every Student Nationals, the Mens A Category was highly contended with 8 closely matched riders all fighting for podium. In cable, twice champion Matt Price falling on his backside 313 meant that the competition was open, and Johnny Carne stepped it up, pulling his Blind Judge and HS 720 and stomping it clean, just beating Rich Underwood’s TS Raley and Blind Jury. It truly was an epic battle! In boat, Johnny took his second title, landing a super clean set, involving back to back 5’s and a lot of blind tricks.

This year also saw the addition of the new Men’s Cutting Edge Category and Women’s B Category to promote beginners getting more involved. Basic tricks were specifically marked high so as to give everyone a chance to get a podium spot a receive some of the thousands of pounds worth of prizes that were up for grabs.

Apart from the serious competitions, there were a few categories that were just there to make everybody laugh. Ed Williamson took the kneeboard title, landing the massive Hyperlite A-frame and also getting very close to landing a backflip; Ed’s only podium position this year, (embarrassing) just missing out on the Men’s A category, coming 4th…Another student only competition, (a Uniwake tradition) the ‘exit the cable stack’, where the aim of the game is to get off the cable in the most extravagant (and painful) way as possible. Once again, Ed put up a valiant effort, releasing Raleys at the top and diving in. Cameron Holmes opted for the; ‘1. cut hard 2. boardslide and 3. point toes’, resulting with a perfect slap, but the title went to Mike Burt for catching a toe edge off a Raley, on purpose… savage.

Honestly, it truly was an epic weekend. The Uniwake Team, Andy Granger and the Sheffield Cable Ski guys once again put on an amazing event which, people will no doubt be looking forward to next year.

Mark Webb Mountain Due Tour Update

Posted on 29/6/09

Mark Webb completed the 1st leg of the Mountain Dew Tour, held in Chicago over the weekend, and finished with a very satisfying 6th place. The Dew Tour is the World’s biggest and most prestigious BMX Tour contest, with a prize purse of $2.5 million, the tour can make or break the career of any International Competition Rider.

Mark competed in the qualifiers against 56 riders each filling up two 60-second runs while competing for 13 spots in the Final, his achievement in the first round has given his confidence a boost and is now looking forward to taking on the 2nd contest, due to be held in Portland, Oregon on 13th August, just after the X Games for Mark.

Mark said at the weekend;

As it was the first leg, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, whether my big aerial tricks would get the judges scoring or my tech riding, I crashed on my first trick and that spun my head out for the first run but as soon as I was through to the final I just went for it. Surprisingly it was the tech tricks that got the crowds cheering so I just kept giving them more of the same but I can’t wait for the next round where I will well and truly unleash what I can really do! The Dew Tour is surrounded by the World’s Best Riders and the Action Sports Scene is so big over there, you really have to pay your dues before you can be seen to get noticed, so to come away with 6th was an amazing start. I am now focused towards making my way up those rankings.

Dave was incredible over the weekend, after smashing in his first run breaking his full face helmet and his nose, he went on to win! If Mirra’s on form, nobody can touch him, and he had one of those weekends.”

For fans, here's a video of a day in the life of Mark Webb.

Bristol's hottest unsigned band, Turbowolf

Posted on 12/6/09

Turbowolf NME

Described as the freak child of Death From Above 1979, ELO, The Stooges, Justice and White Zombie, Turbowölf, are building an electronic noise temple above the crumbled pillars of rock music.

The newest addition to the epic Relentless Music roster blends Godzilla guitar riffs, battle-broken junk store keyboards and huge choruses into unhinged live freak-outs.

Constantly striving to conquer new musical territory, Turbowölf put innovation, energy and fun back into rock ’n’ roll. Their flamboyant, wall shaking live shows draw a patchwork crowd of rockers, indie kids, electro nerds and ugly stinking weirdos.

Earlier this year the band released their debut double A-side single, Bite Me Like A Dog / Power to rave reviews, and are currently preparing to unleash the sequel. The band also produces their own limited edition merchandise, which quickly sells out from shows and their online shop.

At the moment Turbowölf are Bristol's biggest unsigned band. They have recently been given the headline slot at this year's Bristol Festival, and were pronounced Bristol's hottest band in the NME guide to the UK.

The parties involved:

Andy - guitars/synths
Chris G - vocals/synths
Chris D - drums
Jeremy - bass

Isle of Man TT 2009 Update

Posted on 7/6/09

Relentless Rider Cameron Donald had an eventful start to this year's Tourist Trophy - making history by becoming the first ever rider to record a 131mph lap and then crashing out. All within the space of 24 hours.

During Thursday practice Cameron carved his place in Isle of Man TT history by recording the first ever 131mph lap around the famous 37.73-mile circuit. This makes him the current King of Mountain and alongside fellow Relentless rider Bruce Anstey one of only three riders, to have ever broken the 130mph barrier!

However, during Friday night’s final practice session Cameron suffered an unfortunate accident, which put him out of this year's event. As he approached the Keppel Gate section of the course, the Melbourne resident missed a gear, forcing him to run wide onto the grass. Cameron did his best to stay on-board but eventually crashed out, dislocating his left shoulder and suffering a minor back injury. We wish him a swift recovery.

Super Seeley Remains Unbeaten

Posted on 2/6/09

Alastair Seeley and the 2009 GSX–R1000 Suzuki remain unbeaten in this season’s National Superstock Championship, after win number four at Thruxton in Hampshire.

Seeley may have relinquished his one-hundred percent pole position record in qualifying, but the 29-year-old played the perfect game of cat and mouse throughout the 15 lap race, out smarting and out riding his rivals to take yet another chequered flag. Seeley also took the fastest lap of the race on the 2009 GSX–R1000.

In the British Superbike class Ian Lowry looked to be heading for a top five finish in race one, but at half distance his rear tyre started to shred itself on the right hand side, leaving the 22-year-old with the unenviable task of nursing his GSX–R1000 Superbike home in 19th place. Ironically, Lowry recorded the second fastest lap of the race before his tyre problems.

Relentless Supporting British Pro Surfing

Posted on 29/5/09

The UK Pro Surf tour, supported by Relentless, launched in Croyde Devon to consistent swell and a phenomenal standard of surfing.

A global list of competitors made for some interesting and challenging heats. Former WCT competitor Russell Winter (Newquay), Glen Hall (Ireland/ Australia), Matt Capel (Newquay) and Alan Stokes (Newquay) battled outin the final on Sunday with some aggressive surfing in serious competition. Russell Winter appeared on good form in the early stages but failed to connect and took second place to Glen Hall in a gripping battle full of drama and technical brilliance.

Reuben Ash won the £250’money move’ prize provided by Relentless by pulling off two huge Aerials in one heat, Reuben, billed one of the Country’s hottest tipped surfers for the WQS this year, currently holds the 2008 UKPST Title for Relentless Big Air.

Relentless supported Jayce Robinson also won a podium place in the Pro Juniors, proving himself as another of the Country’s rising stars in professional surfing. Jayce recently competed at the O’Neil Cold Water Classic, 6* WQS in Thurso, Scotland and thrashed last year’s Boardmasters winner Wiggoly Dantes in his first heat! Jayce is set to take on the European Pro Juniors and has a Wild Card Entry for the Relentless Boardmasters 5* WQS later on in the year.

The next UKPST Event will be the Gul Night Surf at Fistral Beach from 12-13th June

Mark Webb Wins at FISE

Posted on 26/5/09

Mark Webb

Relentless Artist Mark Webb went out to Montpelier to compete at his first serious European event of the year and came back with a first place trophy for Street.

Mark was facing some very steep odds, having to compete against the likes of X Games winners Dave Mirra, Daniel Dhers and Simpel Sessions Winner Ryan Guettler. Armed with an arsenal of new technical tricks he had been itching to unleash for the first time in France (the 180 whip-to-tyre-tap-to-downside-opposite-downside-whip-in - work that out if you can), he nailed the contest and walked away pumped for his first Dew Tour stop in just 4 weeks time.

A puncture during the final round kept Mark from the first for the mini ramp, and after borrowing another bike he ended the session with a third place.

Ben Skinner Riding High

Posted on 27/4/09

The first and crucial event of the ASP European Longboard Tour came to an end with Relentless Team Surfer Ben Skinner dominating the LQS Goanna Pro Tapia in consistent, five foot waves.

Ben has secured his Oxbow World Longboard Tour tickets and will represent Europe on the elite longboard tour. Our longtime top European longboarder, defeated Frenchman Alexis Deniel in the final, confirming his standout status through the event by posting both highest wave score and heat result in the 30-minute decider. Skindog has now left Northern Spain with the precious ticket for the Oxbow WLT.

"It is just perfect to end up the event with a win," Skinner said. "I came here with a big result in mind and to win and get that qualification for the WLT is what I wanted most. I was feeling great with that new board and surfed as good as I could every day. I am definitely going to celebrate that great event!"

Mark Webb at 2009 Dew Tour

Posted on 15/4/09

Relentless BMX Artist Mark Webb is about to mak his biggest year by far and take things across the Atlantic. ??

Mark will be conquering the United States in the 2009 Dew Tour spanning from June to October. He will be given the opportunity to participate in the Open Qualifying events in Chicago and Boston, with Chicago being an exclusively BMX event. The latter stages of the tour will send our street champion zig-zagging through Portland, Salt Lake City and finally Orlando, where the winners will be decided. We have no doubt that our main man will be putting up quite a fight, as this is the stage that will define the participants for this year's X Games. Best of luck, Mark... even though you hardly need it.

Pharrell Power

Hip-Hop wunderkind Pharrell Williams will be sprinkling golden dust on Relentless this summer.?

Overall busy man Pharrell has confirmed a Relentless Wakestock performance with his posse, the concisely named N.E.R.D. Afterwards, he will very promptly be moving on to headline the Relentless NASS on the 10-12 July this year, and wrap-up what would appear to be a Relentless residency.

Pharell recently confessed that he was a passionate skater way before he became known as the quintessential geek-bling ethusiast, and pop-indistry’s golden boy:??

That’s all we did as kids - skate or ride our bikes. I mean, I wasn’t really good on a bike, we used to go on dirt trails and just do crazy jumps and shit. It was like a group of ten of us, back when it was all about Diamond Backs and Haros and Hutches.

His full confession as well as some candid bits on Pharrell can be found in the online version of Huck.
For the real Pharrell, however, please check: ??Relentless Wakestock?? /???? Relentless NASS??

Return To Podium Form For Relentless Suzuki MX

Posted on 7/4/09

Relentless legend Martin Barr was the top performer in the team's best weekend of the season so far. Riding one of only a few 250cc bikes in the race, Barr took his RM-Z250 to an impressive second place, followed by teammate Scott Columb, completing the podium in third. Not far off, Relentless rider Jamie Law closely followed at 5th place, and our own Scott Probert defying injury to finish in 17th.

In the second race Martin Barr and Scott Columb finished in identical positions to the first race, but this time, with the entire team finishing inside the top ten and Jamie Law notably taking a solid 6th overall from the day.

Skateboarding Scotland

Posted on 25/3/09

A few months ago as winter rolled into view, the good people at Skateboard Scotland teamed up with Relentless to organise a road trip with for some up and coming Scottish skateboarders that would take them deep into the Sassenach country.

With no set itinerary the unsponsored skaters led by Ali Menzies (Skateboard Scotland Head Honcho) steered his band of miscreants around some of the North of England’s finest Skateboard destinations in search of nothing more complicated than a good session on turf new to many of the skaters involved, and an escape from the already bitter Scottish weather.

You can find more info and additional photos in this month's issue of Sidewalk Magazine.

Relentless vs. Clash Magazine @ SXSW

Posted on 20/3/09

Relentless @ South By South West

Relentless teamed up with Clash magazine to throw one of the most anticipated parties of the week at South By South West music festival in Austin, Texas. A melange of industry bods, eager fans, musicians and locals witnessed a barrage of incredible new music.

Bristolian bruisers Turbowolf woke everyone up with a tight catchy assault of riffery, quickly followed by the infectious and high energy punked up rock of Scots Dananananakroyd - the only band we’ve seen with two drummers! Micachu and the Shapes then delighted the crowd with their unique brand of percussive sounds, mini-guitar shredding and general charm. It was then back to operation rock as Fighting With Wire tore the stage apart with their balls-to-the-wall melodic and catchy hits.

Juliet Lewis and her new band the Romantiques brought the now packed venue to a standstill with her mesmerising and soulful stage presence. She also had her picture taken with about half the venue! The expectant crowd then got the one-two everyone had been waiting for. Gallows got amongst it when they jumped off the stage and played their entire set amongst the people. They blasted through old classics as well as treating the crowd to a deluge of new material from their yet-to-be released record Grey Britain which looks set to be something of a behemoth!

Thanks to everyone that came down and made it such a special day.

Elsewhere on the line-up there’s the wonky delight of the much tipped Micachu, the uncompromising Fighting With Wire, Glasgow’s purveyors of ‘Fight Pop’ the one and only Dananananaykroyd and energetic openers Turbowolf.

We have also rustled up an exclusive set from the returning Juliette Lewis who is bringing her band The New Romantiques. Hold onto those lobes and sharpen those elbows.

Relentless Boardmasters 2009

Posted on 3/3/09

After 3 years at the Boardmasters, Relentless are proud to announce the title sponsorship of Europe’s largest surf, skate and music festival. We are pleased to welcome another long term partner of the event, Vans, as associate sponsor.

After 3 years of involvement with the festival, Relentless moves in as the headlining sponsor. This is part of our ongoing commitment to support the best in British talent and events within core sports and music across the UK.

The Relentless Boardmasters event will take place from 5-9th August in Newquay, the home of British surfing. We expect to see the world's best surfers battle it out on Fistral beach in what is the highest-quality surfing event in England, with an award cache of $100,000.

In addition to this, Relentless will help demonstrate the most radical and progressive form of surfing - the ‘Relentless Aerial Assault’- a surf contest that uses a jet ski to tow surfers into waves, enabling them to perform huge airs and moves impossible in regular surf conditions.

Kerrang! Relentless Energy Tour Finishes

Kerrang!

The Kerrang! Relentless Tour drew to a close on Friday last week.  After some incredible shows across the north of England, the Relentless team pulled into Brixton full of anticipation and excitement for the tour finale and the biggest gig of the lot. Unfortunately, due to a power cut in the local area, the venue was crippled and couldn’t produce enough juice to get the huge amount of equipment on stage powered up. This forced organisers to pull the whole thing, much to the disappointment of the extensive and expectant London crowd. Relentless would like to thank everyone involved in what was otherwise a great tour spanning the whole of the UK. We made a lot of new friends and look forward to next year when we hope to be doing it all over again - and power cut free.

Supplies of Relentless were sucked dry as people flocked to the stand to see the latest Reebok collection, with kicks being customised on-site by street artist team Monorex.

Past Halfway

Kerrang

The Kerrang! Relentless Energy Tour has officially passed the halfway mark; a trail of sonically assaulted fans lie bewildered in its wake. Along the way, Relentless Artists In Case of Fire have turned the opening up slot into their very own art form; Black Tide have won over hordes of new fans with their faultless set; the most brutal band on tour, Bring Me the Horizon, have wrung the necks of crowds across the country with their new material; and Dir En Grey, who play to crowds of over 70,000 back home in Japan, have torn these more intimate gigs to pieces.

See you in Glasgow tonight!

Kerrang_Belfast

The Kerrang! Relentless Energy drink tour kicked off with a massive bang in Belfast, Ireland last night.

An extremely excited crowd queued from the early hours in the freezing cold for the sell out show. In Case of Fire started proceedings with a blinding set in front of their hometown crowd, followed by an awesome session from young bucks Black Tide.

Bring Me The Horizon tore the place apart and Dir En Grey showed up with what had to be the biggest drum kit ever seen on the emerald isle. Headliners Mindless Self Indulgence proved to be the pinnacle of the night, with the whole crowd chanting every word back at them and bouncing frantically to their staccato beats. Belfast has really set the bench mark for the rest of the tour!

The Robots Are Coming

The Robots Are Coming.

The Kinetica season of talks at Bishopsgate Institute in London will focus on the convergence of art and science within the realms of robotics and cybernetics and explore new technologies and materials used by artists.

A date that particularly catches the eye is the 11th of November, when controversial performance artist, Stelarc, joins the panel. In 25 different performances he has hung himself in flesh hook suspension, allowed his body to be controlled remotely by electronic muscle stimulators connected to the internet, performed with a robotic third hand, a robotic third arm, and a pneumatic spider-like six-legged walking machine which sits the user in the center of the legs and allows them to control the machine through arm gestures. Oh, and In 2007, he got a cell-cultivated ear implanted into his left arm.

Man & Machine: The Convergence Tuesday 11th November 2008, 7.30pm, £7/£5 conc.

This visionary panel will discuss the advancing potential of the human body and explore how science fiction has lead the way forward in creating today's robotic and technologically integrated society.

Speakers:

Ghislaine Boddington - Director Body>Data>Space
Rich Walker - Director Shadow Robot Company
Dianne Harris - Artist, Art Director and Curator Kinetica Museum
Brian R Duffy - Senior Researcher, Anthropos Project, Media Lab Europe & Smartlab Digital Media Institute, (University of East London)
Stelarc - Performance Artist, Lecturer Performance Art, (Brunel University) and Senior Research Fellow Marcs Lab (University of Western Sydney)

Get it While it's Cold

Posted on 30/9/08

Like it or not, winter is coming. So what better time to splash some cash on some overpriced mountain gear to get you through it? We picked out a couple of things worth a peek.

Action Shots

Oregon Scientific may not be the most stylish of brands, but few can match them for build quality. Frankly, If this little camera can survive the kind of amateurish wipeouts I frequently sustain, I don’t care what it looks like. Everything Oregon Scientific build is tough, and their next gizmo is this ATC5K. There are cameras out there with better video and better sound than this, and for similar money, but they are no way near as rugged. Similarly, you can get bullet proof bits of kit with amazing video, but you’ll have to remortgage your house. As it stands, it’s a good value camera and suitable for the most hardcore of outdoor athletes.

The Reverse Camber Buzz

This year, everybody’s talking about ‘rockered’ profiles, a reverse camber (curving upward instead of downward) in skis that gives greater flotation and easier turning in deep powder. K2’s Pontoon Powder ski is the best in pure powder, but hard to get in the UK and not as clean on-piste as it is off. For the ultimate back-country ride that also excels on the piste, the Volkl Chopstick takes some beating, but again, hard to find. These guys export: www.colorado-ski-outlet.com

Green Garms

Eco-friendly gear is all the rage, especially when it comes to apparel, but this isn’t an environmental decision. Merino wool is derived from sustainable sheep ranching operations in New Zealand. most companies use a hybrid line of apparel marrying two weights of the wonder wool to alternately provide breathability and additional warmth where it's needed most. Also, Merino is naturally anti-bacterial and doesn’t smell, so you spend a bit more, but can get away with using one pair of socks for a week without creating your own brand of cheese. Get your Merino socks here. You won’t regret it. www.specialistsocks.co.uk
