HomeLives Of The Artists
After months of frosted limbs, mosh pit run-ins, late night editing sessions and countless coffee orders, our new feature-length documentary, Lives of the Artists, premiered with a bang in London on the 8th December.
The Artists themselves were there, director Ross Cairns gave some compelling insight into the lengths he and the team went to get what was required, and there was the usual Relentless bash after the curtain went down amidst rapturous applause. Which means of course that...

And also to my son with a main sponser behind him such as yourself. If you could please respond with your dission or any advice that you have to offer me and my son i would be greatfull. Saw Gallows in concert last night down here in Oz, having been totally inspired by the way they presented in the movie. Totally blown away - best gig I've ever been to hands down (and I've been to a lot of gigs!) energy, emotion, intensity and letting loose. Being a booger, the relationship to Mickey smith is strong and now Frankie and Gallows are an extension of this. Yet again emotionally blown away.Doc

Following the last posts re: the 'ambient' soundtrack, the entire score, apart from 20 seconds of Mozart, is original and is by James Edward Barker. Much as I love Eno, we worked very hard on making an original score for this film. Also, while I'm making a comment, many thanks to all those who've been so kind in their comments about the film. It's pleasing to know that what we laboured to make has hit the mark. Thanks.

I need to ask: could anyone let me know the band(s) that did the ambient music on the documentary? I loved the film, but being a post-rock lover myself, the music behind it was my favorite part. Amazing.

Film is so beautiful. I was crying all the time during the movie. It was so much beauty inside that I couldn't hold my cry. And big gratitude cause this people talk about real life, real emotions and they are reaching something universal about us as a warriors who look after peace within our self. It gives me a sense that we are all part of something bigger. Film has a very deep message. Be open and let it touch ur hearth. Thanks for making this.Hrvoje

I enjoy any surf film I get to watch for free. However, I do think the interviews get a bit laborious. My main criticism is of highlighting Gallows. I like the band, they're tight, but they stand on the shoulders of giants. They, I'm sure, would happily admit that their sound just happens to be the most marketable things that's come out of the UK hardcore/metalcore scene. The real artists of this genre are the bands and kids that go to shows and support their local scene. But then, I'm biased, as my college days were in Canterbury which was a diamond example of an amazing local hardcore scene.Despite all this, thank-you Relentless for full-length, free movie!

Your documentary, the part of Xavier, inspire me to write the next article in Snowboard Surfer Rule (spanish magazine). You reflect perfectly the pssion to be snowboarder and freerider, and certantly that sometimes it's no easy to explain in the typical snowboards movies, with tons of action and no words.Your documentary produce me emotion... Good luck from the valley of Benasque, spanish Pyrenees.

Loved it!!! I ski, surf and have seen Gallows live at Reading Festival. This film sums it all up profoundly! It really is so true how this is all a form of art that comes from the soul. A passionate film that brings it all together!

Well all the comments here are blowing smoke up the ass of this film so i wonder if I am in a minority or if there is censorship going on?Anyway, while i respect each of the 'artists' for doing what they do well in general, the film itself is a long winded self congratulatory dreary piece of pretentious poop. Cutting it down to 30 minutes would be a start. That way we'd only have to listen to Xavier wax all mystical about le mountains once, instead of having him repeat himself ad nauseum. Or watch him do a few less linked turns in coma inducing slo-mo.The chopes section is less irritating but very below average if you know what else has been documented at that spot. Gallows were probably most interesting, but by that I mean least uninteresting. Do they really take themselves so seriously? Think they are being so revolutionary? Or is the director stitching together only their most cringeworthy rambling?Maybe it's so boring because it's just interview-performance-interview etc with no real change of pace or background colour. Maybe it's so irritating because it takes itself so seriously. Maybe it's almost ok but just waaaaaay too long. Whatever. I hated the half I managed to sit through.

Simlpy awesome, Love snowboarding and Rockin out on bass. Its great to know lifes worth living if you go and get it. Break the boundries and live life loud.

A truly stunning preformance from the Gallows as always, and how true it is that sometime's its better to burn out than fade out. Although it is going to leave a large wound in the music industry where the Gallows were (when they split) it will inspire many other's to take the role and say what they realy think about this country of ASBO's, Jermmy Kyle and Teen Pregnacies. Of war, of the fallen who are forgoten and how even on our very door step's the world and the courty is slowly falling apart just everone is blind to it.This documentry has opened my eye's to the true side of the Gallow's and shown me trully how much soul, passion and down right anger that has gone into there music. To wake up the people and tell them the truth of the world. Frank, Stephen, Stuart and the rest of the Gallows, are trully an insparational and rare group of people. So it's safe to say that from me, from my freind's and from the very part's of us that yearn to show the world what is wrong and why there is so much anger in our music, and more so why everything has become complacent, reproduced and cloned. Because in the end we are here for a meare milli second compared to everything else so, isnt it time we wake up we smell the coffee and we show the rest of the world nevermind what our goverment's do, screw what the politicions say because this is not our voice. This is not the voice of change, anger and disapointment in the country, this is there voice not our's.

I watched this film as a Gallows fan, but come away from it being a fan of life itself and all the great things anyone can achieve if they really want to.Great film, this is reality, not watching people sleep in a house / jungle for 6 weeks!!

ein unglaublich wundervoller film!
Posted By zidane on 13/12/09
This was absolutely beautiful. I was watching this for Gallows, but the bits of the other parts that I did see were stunning. The filming of the waves crashing around was incredible.Whoever decided to feature Gallows in this, thank you. I'm a huge fan of Gallows and what they stand for, and this was eye opening. It really gave a sense of the band, their lives and motives and feelings. I had heard Frank say before that Gallows wouldn't last for long, and now I finally have a deep understanding of what he means by that. It's heartbreaking that such a passionate and influential band has to end early, but after hearing the band's side of the story, I have to understand and accept their decision, whatever it may be. It pains me to say this, but it would in fact be better for Gallows to end and the members go off and do what they love than for them to slowly fade away and end up hating what they're doing with their lives, which would inevitably drain all of the passion and frustration that is Gallows. My deepest thanks to anyone who contributed to this; you revealed to us what we knew of Gallows, but gave it meaning. Before I knew, now I understand.

Oh my god!! Best thing i've ever seen! Will it be available to buy or download at some stage?

The word "awesome" is often misused. In this case it works. A very interesting viewpoint of artistry.
Posted By Peter Rickhard on 10/12/09
Awesome gear. After watching I feel both emotionally charged and torn completely apart at the same time. The scenes are breathtaking in their mix of power, beauty and sheer rawness. Mickey Smith you're a legend with a gifted eye for the lens in the water. Gallows will be tearing my senses apart again when they come out here to Oz in Feb next year. A mind-blowing creation and total work of art.
