Triumphing in the face of adversity is something that's at the core of what Relentless is all about. This year's legendary Relentless International North West 200 in Northern Ireland will go down as one of the most challenging and trouble-ridden races in its long, proud history, but it’s our very own Alastair Seeley’s brave, winning performance that we’ll be remembering for years to come.
The Carrickfergus rider dominated the qualifying sessions in the run-up to race day, coming in fastest in both the Superstock and SuperSport categories and setting unofficial lap records in both classes in the process. The Superstock qualifier saw him reach blistering speeds of just under 120mph on his GSX-R100, while his run on his SuperSport bike of choice, the GSX-R600, took him up to just under 116mph. As we’ve said before, this is not a race for the faint of heart. An electrical fault with his GSX-R1000 denied him the chance of a clean sweep for pole positions in all three classes, but Relentless’ Guy Martin made a strong impression by finishing fourth in qualifying in the premier Superbike class.
Come race day, the course between Port Rush, Port Stewart and Colerain was lashed by torrential rain, and it’s amidst these unfavourable conditions that Seeley won the SuperSport race, continuing his breath-taking form. Unfortunately it was to be the only race of the day, with a combination of a mile-long oil slick leaking from a rider’s bike, a bomb scare and heavy rain throughout the day forcing the organisers to cancel the other races. Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing therefore emerged as the sole winner, thanks to Seeley’s daring, heroic efforts.
