Stories are part of the fabric of human consciousness, and tales of men and women who dedicate their lives to a dream, touch all of us.
In 2010, Relentless Energy Drink presents Short Stories challenged up-and-coming directors, including last year’s winner Mickey Smith, to tell these tales. Now, in 2011, the pan-European short film competition is back to push things even further!
Eight auteurs from across the UK, Ireland and Germany have been invited to compete for a £10,000 prize and the chance to be commissioned by Relentless Energy to work on an original project next year.
"The brief? To bring their version of No Half Measures to life"
The brief? To bring their version of No Half Measures to life. To turn the uncompromising attitude of pioneers and innovators in the arts or across sport into passionate breakneck short-form films.
Dark Side of the Lens by surf photographer Mickey Smith, will be a hard act to follow with over 260,000 views of the winning film on YouTube alone. But this year’s entries are looking every bit as ground-breakingly good.
The first round of films kicks off with The Road - an eye-opening doc about folk-punk troubadour, Frank Turner. Directed by fêted music video producer, James Henry, the film channels the spirit of Frank’s hardcore punk heroes, focusing on his punishing touring schedule, and his unrelenting dedication to his music. Don’t miss the other films coming soon to relentlessenergy.com: Never Too Late - an account of the rise, fall, and subsequent rise again of German snowboarder Elias Elhart. Director Mauro Castellani went on the road with Elhart over the last four seasons, making him uniquely qualified to paint an intimate portrait of the athlete’s devotion to the slopes.
And then there's Good Morning Gravity - the harrowing and inspiring tale of UK BMX pro Niki Croft, the accident that nearly ended his life in 2010, his recovery, and his determination to get back on his bike. Established core filmmaker, Richard Forne, presents a No Half Measures take on a universal story of suffering, endurance and, finally, triumph.
This is just the beginning, come back to see Relentless Energy Short Stories 2011 launch five more films over the course of the year, each one unique, but each one infused with the No Half Measures spirit.
