A bold street artist is putting beauty back into Belgium

Think of Belgium and you will probably think of chocolate, Jean Claude Van Damme and possibly Poirot, but, if you have been out and about in the East End of London recently then you have probably noticed another product of Belgium.

Noticed any over-sized black and white animals on the sides of building? They are the work of Belgian street artist Roa.
He began his work on the streets/buildings of Ghent in Belgium where he became fixated by the wildlife surrounding him and how they could adapt to become scavengers just to survive. He uses deteriorating, abrasive interiors and exteriors of buildings as his canvas to portray these giant pieces of art.

Roa's style and designs set him apart from other street artists. The attention to detail and the life he injects into his work is unbelievable. The animals eyes stare right at you as if they are watching and following you (very surreal when these animals are twice the size of you, possibly larger)

His fairly recent return to London resulted in a solo exhibition at the Pure Evil gallery back in the spring.

If you are a fan of his work here is a map of where his work is located around the East end.
