The first Relentless UK Pro Wake Tour reaches a gripping climax
Largely excellent weather conditions throughout all four stops of the 2011 Relentless UK Pro Wake Tour helped to create some seriously captivating wakeboarding this summer, as you’ll see from our series of videos below. With new talent burning bright alongside established stars, it very much catered for the job it set out to do – to promote the UK wake scene at large.
Stop 2: West Midlands Waterski Centre, Tamworth – 17 September
After the cable antics of Stop 1 in Sheffield had passed, the second bout moved to boat riding in Tamworth. Although marred by occasional gusts of wind and light showers, the sun came out eventually and every rider was given the chance to show their best. Young O’Neill rider Jorge Gill beat off close competition from David Coates (second) and Scotty Broome (third) to win the Men’s, while fellow O’Neill athlete Jules Haley took the Women’s, following on from her 2011 National title just a few weeks prior.
Stop 3: JBSki, Surrey – 24 September
It was back to cable for Stop 3 at the spiritual home of all things Relentless wake, JBSki. Blue skies reigned over this incredibly tight contest, with Kustom rider Tor Young cruising into first place, and landing the 2011 Pro Tour Cable title in the process. Declan Clifford returned to the tour, setting the cat among the pigeons and charging his way into first place, while Lewis Cornwall took second and joined Young as the overall 2011 winner in doing so.
Stop 4: Quayside Wake & Ski, Surrey – 30 September - 1 October
The grand finale was blessed with one of the hottest weekends of the year, with big names like Sam and Johnny Carne falling in the qualifiers in the baking heat to eventually claw their way back in via the Last Chance Qualifiers. Sian Hurst caused an upset early on, snagging the lead from Jules Haley, but it was Haley who emerged victorious in the end to claim the 2011 title for O’Neill in the Women’s. In the Men’s, Relentless-sponsored rider David O’Caoimh continued his blistering form to win the day, with Sam and Johnny taking second and third. With David and Sam having missed the first stops on the tour, it was David Coates who won the championship after finishing fourth on the day.
Check out highlights from each stop below. Congratulations to our new champions and all who took part.
