Russell Winter wins the first Relentless Energy Drink Surf Super Series in Newquay
Local hero Russell Winter rode away with the inaugural Relentless Energy Drink Surf Super Series title this month, winning the three-date tournament on home ground at Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall after an excellent run of form. His win at this third and final stop sealed the overall victory, and also saw him win the UK Pro Tour in the process – an emphatic triple victory.
A nail-biting finale at Fistral
After Micah Lester won the first stop at Thurso and Reubyn Ash won the second at Lynmouth, Lester would have won the tournament if he placed third or higher. Winter managed to emerge victorious however, scoring a 9.1 on his final wave – the highest of the competition overall. With some sizable 6-10ft waves on hand, it was nothing but quality surfing all the way.
“It’s fantastic to win the event let alone the series,” beamed Russell after his win. “I would like to congratulate my fellow competitors for pushing me all the way and thank the sponsors Relentless Energy Drink for supporting the tour with this ground-breaking series of events.”
