The world’s biggest dance music magazine takes control of 2011’s third Energy Sessions
We’ve had rock and metal, urban beats and folky anthems; now it’s time for dance music to take hold of Energy Sessions, sponsored by Relentless Energy Drink, as the mighty Mixmag host the next in the series at The Garage in London on 9 September.
Macabre electro
Headliner Drums of Death is a force to be reckoned with. The Scottish producer, singer and songwriter rocks a distinctively dark look, and blends the ghost of rave past with cutting-edge electro filth and rock ‘n’ roll attitude. He produced Canadian star Peaches’ 2009 album I Feel Cream, has remixed the likes of Tricky and Franz Ferdinand, and stunned the electronic community (and beyond) with his breathtaking debut album Generation Hexed last year.
His live shows are the stuff of legend – a heady and raucous explosion of sweat, synths, screams, shouts and adrenaline. Wherever he plays, carnage ensues. Miss at your peril.
More than ample support
Three more acts all feature, all confident headliners in their own right. Joe Goddard, of Hot Chip fame, is doing wonderful things with the eclectic, colourful sounds of his project with Raf Daddy – The 2 Bears – combining the best bits of house, garage and 90s dance music to heart-warming effect. Northern Ireland’s confusingly monikered The Japanese Popstars have gained plaudits from the scene’s biggest players, and will bring their fierce electro sound to life with their acclaimed live show. Finally, Retro/Grade will bring their unique take on future-retro Italo disco and electro to The Garage – think Blade Runner meets Daft Punk, and you’re getting there.
2-step to new step
Also added to the bill is the legendary MJ Cole, pioneer of the UK garage 2-step sound and now one of the most acclaimed producers in the wide cannon of bass music. From his sophisticated Mercury-nominated breakthrough album to his more recent rowdy remixes for the likes of Chase & Status, Danny Byrd and Shy FX, he’s one of the most prolific and consistent producers in dance music, and one that the UK can be hugely proud of.
Apologies
Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances, Toddla T (and Shola Ama and Serocee) will no longer be appearing at Mixmag Presents The Energy Sessions sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink. Toddla wishes to express his apologies for any disappointment this may cause.
