Forne walks away with the £10,000 prize, and the opportunity to work with Relentless Energy Drink on a brand new piece for 2012, seeing off strong competition from the five other finalists.
A high-impact insight into injury
The winning film recounted Niki’s terrifying tale of almost losing his life after a severe BMX accident in October 2010, which left him in a coma for several days, and physically and mentally shattered thereafter. More importantly, it highlighted his slow and difficult, but ultimately triumphant, recovery and captured both sides of the tale in a hugely visceral way.
The judges picked the film for its strong narrative flow and stunning cinematography, with film producer, founder of Vertigo Films and judging panellist, Allan Niblo, saying that it offers “the perfect insight into the head of Niki Croft, how his accident affected him and his comeback to riding – all without feeling rushed”.
Congratulations to both of the winning parties, and to all the finalists. Look out for Richard Forne in 2012, and remind yourself why this film has had such an impact by watching again below.
