Relentless

London Freeze 2009

London’s iconic Battersea power station was for a second year running beset by a winter wonderland in the very heart of London. UK’s largest snowboard and music festival took place over the weekend of Friday 30th October bringing the world’s top skiers and snowboarders, coupled with some incredible live music. The Relentless snow team, including; Gary Greenshields, Joe Tyler, Tyler Chorlton and Tom West rubbed shoulders with a plethora of international superstars including Air and Style winner Stefan Gimpl, Christian Haller and ski hero’s TJ Schiller and Bobby Brown

On Friday 30th October there were celebrations all round with three Relentless riders placing in the top four of the Battle of Britain Snowboard comp. Saturday saw Garry also taking 4th in the style round, and Stafan Gimpl adding another inner city snow comp medal to his trophy cabinet taking first in the FIS championship with a cleanly executed frontside 1080!
In addition to the World Class sports offering, over 30 live music acts were performing across two Live music stages. King Blues and Audio Bully’s as smashed it on the Relentless pyramid stage with electric performances, whilst Calvin Harris and The Eagles of Death Metal kept the main stage bouncing.

Sunday; rain and wind set in to try and dampen spirits. They even caused London’s first ever avalanche with all the snow from the run-in collapsing to the bottom of the kicker. However the machine-like shaping crew pulled off a miracle (otherwise known as 7 hours of digging through the night!) replacing as much snow as they could on the landing, and creating a new run-in with artificial snowflex lubricated with water and washing up liquid! The final went off, with super close scores, and an intense atmosphere right till the end. Russ Henshaw eventually took gold by one point.
