Snowboarders and music lovers unite each year for the Relentless Energy Drink Freeze Festival

A Relentless Energy Drink sponsored event…

And as the former will agree, there’s no better way to beat off those winter blues than with a good old shredding and music session.

Beats at Freeze

Set in the shadow of London's colossal Battersea Power Station from 28 - 29 October, this year's event saw Mike Skinner's legendary outfit The Streets play their last ever London festival gig - an emotional moment for all. They played alongside a host of other major music talents from across the board. Groove Armada presents Red Light destroyed the main arena amidst a flurry of lasers, with other incredible sets from Beardyman, Zane Lowe, Everything Everything, The Joy Formidable and Summer Camp to name but a few. The intimiate Energy Sessions stage, sponsored by Relentless Energy Drink, was an absolute riot, with a potent blend of dance and rock music in tow, including Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Pulled Apart By Horses, Modestep, Dirtyphonics and Fixers.

Battle of Britain

Fourteen of the UK’s most talented freestyle snowboarders took to the 32-metre Big Air kicker and put on a superb show for the crowd in the BOB snowboarding contest, as well as doing the country proud. The level of riding was more than impressive. The jump and snow quality for 2011 was head and shoulders above that of previous years, no doubt aiding the higher level of riding witnessed in this formidable contest.

After dominating the British championships in 2010 and 2011, last year’s winner Billy Morgan delivered once again with a textbook backside double cork 10 on his first run – an incredibly bold move so early on. Relentless Energy Drink-sponsored rider Dom Harington stomped his way into second place with a beautiful corked backside 720, clearly loving the occasion. In third place was Lewis Courtier-Jones, after landing a frontside 720.

Plenty had been said about Cody Hierons, who surprisingly finished fourth but was arguably the most solid and consistent rider of the day, stomping on the smoothest backside 9s the UK has ever witnessed.

Friday saw the annual Battle of Britain skiing competition taking place on the 32-metre kicker. Typically, this event sees Britain's best skiers riding on a less than perfect surface - but this year the ramp was in superb condition.

James Woods hands-down claimed first place with a textbook double cork 12 mute, tweaked and landed to perfectly. Andy Matthew came in second with a gracefully tweaked out rodeo 1080 mute, while James Machon finished third on the podium with a smooth 1080 mute.

FIS Snowboard World Cup

Some of the world’s best snowboarders were on show, with huge double cork 10s and individual signature styles being thrown left, right and centre. The atmosphere was charged and on another level in comparison to previous years. The standard of riding was fittingly world-class and leaves us wondering just how much better next year is going to be. Janne Korpi of Finland rode away with the title after perfectly landing an incredible frontside double cork 10, with Belgium’s Seppe Smits and Holland’s Joris Ouwerkerk in second and third respectively. The UK’s Jamie Nicholls put in a valiant effort to end in fourth place.

International Ski Competition

Friday afternoon/evening saw some of the world’s best freestyle skiers competing during a beautiful sun set. It was the infamous Jossi Wells who took first place with a textbook switch double cork 12, executed with a near-perfect landing. There was no doubt he would be the winner. Sweden’s had to be second with a very clean super-tweaked switch double cork 12, while Norway’s PK Hunder came in third with a smooth switch corked 12.

Next year will be hard to top on all fronts, but we’re confident this unique event will get even better.
